Xbox Controller Setup

Hey! I heard Blizzard added in their own controller access, which is great!
So I’m trying to test it out with my Xbox controller.
Forgive me if I’m a total noob, but all I need is my Xbox controller? Or do I need some sort of attachment that you plug into the controller that somehow helps you connect to the game?
Because I’m logged in the game, and I’m just sitting here trying to figure out how to connect my controller to my Mac laptop. Like blue tooth or something?
I’m so bad at this.

TL;DR, how do I connect my Xbox controller to WoW/my computer?

If you wanna use blue tooth you need a usb dongle that plugs into a USB port on your pc. You can find ones on the MS store that are compatible with your controller. If you wanna use wired the normal wires from the charging kits work just fine. That one is for windows 10 though so idk how/if it works on a Mac.

Edit; couldn’t include link but google should pull it up easy.

Nvm! I miraculously figured it out!

Just a heads up that while you can technically just set up keybinds for your controller in-game now (once you get the controller hooked up), the game still isn’t really built for it. It just eliminates the need for 3rd party software to send the keypresses to the game or whatever.

If the ConsolePort addon is still kicking, you might consider looking into it for a more user-friendly experience (though you’ll still likely need to change some keybinds to your preference).

Yeah, admittedly it was very… tedious? Combat i think is the easiest part. It’s the looting/talking/opening tabs like friends/character/quests and figuring out how to mouse over stuff that’s suuuuper difficult.

I tried the add on and it is a lot more user friendly, but I prefer the normal action bars and seeing all of my abilities. With everything changing with shift modifiers, it was hard for me personally.
So I think I’d like some sort of mix of the two. The control and smart movements that the add on gives, but the normal screen setup that WoW is, where I can just keybind my stuff like normal and everything.
Not sure that made sense, but so far this is my experience.
And being a Druid with different forms makes it so weird too lol…

Hey, just alittle advise, You’ll want to learn your console commands for controllers too.

/console turnspeed
/console SET cameraYawMoveSpeed
/console SET cameraPitchMoveSpeed

Is the key ones you need to know, as these can improve your performance to help compete against mouse users. The higher the number you use the faster you’ll move. But be weary there is limits.

(I am currently re-making my UI for a PS5 controller set-up instead of mouse since it feels amazing to play WoW with a controller)

WoW’s gameplay just isn’t designed for a controller.

Granted i was also trying to use a nintendo switch pro controller, which doesn’t play nice at all with pc unless you configure it through steam, but still.

I will say though it did feel nice to move around with a joystick rather than the wasd keys, but i’d never wanna attempt combat with it.

It requires set-up but it is doable. The game also now supports analogue, and you can tell when you pan the controller with the right stick baised on the joy-sticks access.

I do how ever recommend downloading consoleport to adjust the controller settings easier. But if you intend to use inputs beyond the controller with the addon it’s best to disable it’s action bar portion of the addon.

I understand your position…but the fact that I can plug in a controller and play any type of content sans savage/ultimates etc. in FFXIV with VERY little set up means it is DEFINITELY possible…and has existed for some time now…Highly doubt blizz won’t be made to invest in adding good controller support with Microsoft deal
