Xal'atath's Feet

Some people: Its a foot fetish thing.
Other people: Its most certainly NOT a foot fetish thing.

Me, who played dark souls/elden ring: They got Miyazaki’s input on this one didn’t they?

I’m sure that’s how it was pitched at the staff meeting.

The thing is there are other ways to convey the of Xal’atath being “above” her foes without focusing on her bare feet.

Ever look at a piece of SFW art and see there’s just a little too much detail in certain areas and you just know the artist has a kink there? That’s basically what’s happening here.

imo she should have weird feet due to them being extremities of a being playing at being humanoid, if her feet are going to be showcased at all for some weird reason (and I find it weird because nobody else’s feet have been shot in frame like that?)

For an example of what I’m thinking of, Wilbur Whateley in the Dunwich Horror is a guy who looks off but plausibly human unless you see him without clothes, in which he looks all gnarly in the parts of his body that are normally covered.

Then, if you want to make the argument that the feet shots are to show dominance (rather than something like an over the shoulder shot angled down), you’d see something that actually looks voidy in frame rather than purple goth gf toes

You can show someone floating without showing their feet, and historically, WoW is no stranger to catering to fetishes (remember Alexstraza and Yesra’s old outfits?).

But you’re right. I don’t think it’s for foot fetishists.

Unless Blizzard hired Quentin Tarantino when we weren’t looking.

Thats an example where there is actual confirmation they lean into the bit at the very least.

But you might be on to something, crazy purple themed women barefeet…

This whole thread reads like people discovering feet exist for the first time

After watching the raid end cinematic I made up my mind.

It’s 100% a foot fetish thing disguised as a conscious framing choice to portray power dynamics.

Upon reflection, I don’t think Tarantino included feet as much in his films, so you may not be wrong.

Reading through this thread I’m just…

Well, they made the assets—might as well get maximum use out of them.

We’ve had other villains who were in control and didn’t get shots framed in that specific way or from that specific angle, though. But I think it’s probably just laziness/a shortcut to reuse assets, as I said above.

It’s just a chest. It’s just a rear end. It means absolutely nothing when the camera focuses on them. /s
