Imo, I think a lot of the root of criticisms with the Old Gods or any of the other major villainous entities we’ve fought in a comprehensive manner since Wrath (since BC and Vanilla lore was..... ya.) is that the deeper you get, the less room there is for headcanon.
Blizzard fills in the blanks, not the player.

Nope, I also like it a Iilth qi mah'shar fhn oorql N'Zoth!
Whoops, sorry, it got away from me there for a second.

You're definitely not the only person, but is not a stance I've ever agreed with.
Eldritch horror requires subtlety which Blizzard is incapable of. There's nothing scary about screaming tentacle monsters. And what's worse is that their minions never have any actual motivation for what they do, it's just "they're corrupted!" as they rant about the master.

I’m also on the old gods hype train. Can’t wait to play this content, I hope there are some little callbacks from Xal’atath for shadow priests too. :)
Nah, you're not alone.10/29/2018 12:40 PMPosted by Grandblade... am... am I the only one who likes the Old God story or...?
A Yvenathilm thread that isn't complete bull!@#$?
This is a rare find indeed.

It is a shame that in game deathwing was not like the novel / short story Deathwing. We even got a reason why he willingly joined the old gods in the charge of the aspects short story. Where he wanted to be rid of his Earthwarder abilities because of the physical and emotional pain it was causing him. Even going so far as to give Thrall the full taste of that power and even Thrall was screaming in pain.
Reminded me of when Charles gave Apocalypse a taste of his power in X-men Apocalypse

You are absolutely not alone. In fact, a big part of my fondness for the Old God stuff is precisely why I've grown increasingly impatient with the faction war stuff. As much as the drama-loving masochist in me does still enjoy the faction war to some degree and wants to actually be invested in it again, it's hard to be too invested in it when this cosmic can of worms has been open for a long !@# while now. Not a second goes by I don't want to grab every single major character by their collective ears and yell at them that we have INFINITELY BIGGER FISH TO WORRY ABOUT than each other.
Also, good find there OP. I'm curious to see where this all goes. I hope it's awful and I hope we all lose.
I'm in the weird spot where I like the old god stuff....as background noise to the Faction War stuff.
Probably because i'm a fan of Eternal Darkness, the idea that WW1 was just a front to mass sacrifice people to the Outer Spheres is metal as hell.

I cannot tell you how much I loved all the background stuff about Xal'atath. Part of it is because I found the Cult of Forgotten Shadows blend of the Shadow and Light philosophies to be fascinating, but the other big thing was all the background info it provided on how corrupted the Church of the Holy Light still is, what happened at War of Three Hammers and the Fall of the Troll Empire.
When the Dark Gods aren't in your face squid monsters 24/7 and are instead taking the form of daggers, rings, axes, hiding in the guises of spirits and political leaders to slowly push the world towards the edge of oblivion?
That's great.

..Edge of Oblivion mmmm that really makes my soulStones twinkle.
As other people say, it would he refreshing and incredibly interesting plot if this entire expanaion is in fact a series of huuge losses. The Alliance is crippled, the horde without a warchief, both sides decimated and the old gods win (have the upper hand)
This could really evolve the plot in exciting directions
10/28/2018 08:13 PMPosted by KazalaTheir sense of scope and scale is garbage. Look no further than Argus if you need an example.
I honestly think Argus could have carried an expansion in its own right, being an entire other planet, and all. We show up, fresh faced and flushed with victory on Azeroth, to find ourselves outnumbered and outgunned. For once, we don't insta-win just by showing up, and have to fight for every inch the entire expac.
I know people said they were tired of Fel green, but it didn't have to be like that. Mac'Aree was proof of that. Plus there's an Anchorite in Wintergrasp who says how Wintergrasp reminds her of the peaks of a place called Kaarinos. Boom. Ice mountain zone, with ice demons, which we've never seen before. There were things they could have worked with.

Pretty much my thought process whenever I read Yvenathilm's posts. No offense.
Yven singlehandedly keeps the tinfoil industry in business. But he does have some... interesting takes on some things.

The fact that Xal'atath and Xel'lotath are so similar isn't helping, especially since the blade drives people mad through whispers.

It's not Sylvanas - she has already died three times.
We don't know which iteration of Sylvanas they're counting. Blizzard is purposefully calling continuous attention to that phrase to get us to speculate.10/30/2018 11:36 AMPosted by KyiwaniIt's not Sylvanas - she has already died three times.

1. Frostmourne stab
2. Icecrown freefall
3. Godfrey headshot
It's something more subtle - or Xal is just refering to someone else. Or lying. Or insane.
Probably all of the above.

Did someone say Eternal Darkness? That is my absolute most favorite game on Gamecube.
