[Theory]
Yes, it was technically us who fired the beam, but Xal’atath strung the events to reach that conclusion. After becoming independent from the blade of the black empire, she created an image of herself and feigned escape, while hiding her true essence still inside the dagger. N’zoth wouldn’t consider the dagger a threat if he believed it to be empty.
Through the dagger, she passed herself from Azshara to Wrathion, and eventually onto N’zoth. When the heroes entered the carapace and fought N’zoth at his core, she waited for N’zoth to be fully distracted by the fight. Then she opened a portal to the chamber of the heart, which Magni falsely believed was N’zoth’s doing, but in fact it was Xal’atath giving us the opportunity to fire the reorigination beam at N’zoth.
Then who walked through the portal when we were being choked to death?

I felt like she left the dagger in exchange for it being n’zoth’s new prison.
Her fake image to trick N’zoth.
But why though? Why would you even theorize this. And why would you claim it as a fact instead of as a theory?

Huh? I said it was a theory.
N’zoth opening a portal to the chamber of the heart was a little too convenient, because we wouldn’t have beat him otherwise. Having it be Xal’atath’s doing makes sense.
Ah, my mistake. I missed the very first word and skipped straight to the wall of text. Regardless, it still holds no ground like 99% of pyromancer’s stuff XD
I’ve no idea who pyromancer is.
Good. He doesn’t need more attention than he gets.
I’m still sold on the theory that n’zoth orchastrated the whole thing in order to get the “heroes of azeroth” off his back so he could continue corrupting the world in secret.
the only reason we believe that xal’atath could hurt n’zoth in the first place, is because we where told by xal’atath… a weapon HE created that it could.
and yeah, the opening to the heart chamber did seem awfully convenient, as did a whole bunch of other things that happen in ny’alotha, a realm that he has complete control over.
the illusion of wrathion being a first hint that not everything in there may be exactly what it seems, the fact that so many of his “lieutenants” that we fight along the way where either servants of other old gods, or former allies of ours.
how he continued to encourage our progress forward as we killed our way towards him. the fact that those who “killed” him where his “chosen” and yet he didn’t even attempt to stop us or discourage us along the way.
even him breaking from his ordinary procedure of not operating out in the open by leading us to the exact heart forges we needed to re-connect, through his invasions, and leaving a front door to his realm just sitting there, unguarded and unlocked for us to stroll right in.
seems a bit too easy, a bit too convenient, almost as if he WANTED us to get there and “kill” him.

counterpoint, nothing that happened once we set foot on n’zoth is real

exactly, he straight up leads us right inside him, and we follow like the good raiders we are.
we also kinda just helped il’gynoth to get rid of a few tumours
The mainstream theory that everything in Ny’alotha is fake (aside from Azshara and Ra-den) is still my favorite theory. I came up with this one at work as an alternative.
I also have one where he purposefully let himself get defeated by the beam, because he had corrupted MOTHER to reprogram it so that his essence would melt down into the core of Azeroth’s world-soul.
I may just be aimlessly hoping that there was more to the ending of BfA than what we got. I never truly got over the ending of game of thrones, either.
Ion himself said that there is more the the ending then we saw, or another dev. It was like pay more attention to the ending.
What if we come back from Shadowlands and the next expansion is a fully corrupted Azeroth and we’re just like “well crap”.
