Wyrmrest Confessions

I’ve seen some things in my time. Nothing this perverse and sick though.

My first ever RP character back in Vanilla was a Night Elf waitress in Goldshire who was princess of Darnassus and Tyrande’s sister.
I was 13, pls don’t bully.

We’ve all been there bud. xD The worst thing is, at the time, that sort of story idea feels totally inspired and wonderful. It’s only years later that one facepalms. xD

My first choice for class-race when I started the game was Gnome Hunter.
Now I finally have a Gnome Hunter and I don’t play them.

This more or less happened to me as well, though in my case it was Night Elf Mage. I made one pretty much as soon as Cata came out but soon shelved it for a Worgen and didn’t have a lasting one since until I made this one.

I like death knights and demon hunters unironically and think they make great roleplay characters.

The same way people ironically like other things–to make fun of them.

Some people don’t like edginess. So, some of those people make joke characters out of death knights, because death knights as a concept seem edgy to them, and they like making fun out of it. And they like that, or at least I think so.

I find nothing wrong with this picture. I don’t like particularly edgy characters either, at a certain point. But, seeing these characters makes me feel insecure about my own appreciation for death knights, for better or worse. I feel especially insecure about the work I put in to making them more human and relatable, while still keeping in the death knight spirit. It makes me feel doomed from the get go.

So, I made that post, to make myself feel better. And this one, because it’s a confession thread.

I can’t imagine have this much energy and free time.

Call me cynical but the only reason Classic even exists is financial - they want to reclaim lost subs. My guess is Activision told them to get it done.

Out of interest, what defines a joke DK or DH RP character? I might just not be particularly observant, but I haven’t seen altogether too much in the way of spoof DKs. I’ve seen a few unorthodox DKs, and the Pregnant DK scandal of the olden days, while mostly gone, still has a few pockets of resistance. But yeah I dunno if I’ve seen too many totally ridiculous versions of them.

It’s so cool to hear someone say this though, as a fellow DK enthusiast. My DK is, admittedly, somewhat unorthodox, having been inspired in part by Sir Zeliek, she defines herself more by her past as a Paladin than her present as a Death Knight. But there is this idea that Death Knights cannot be “human and relatable” which is silly to me, given that Darion Mograine is a pretty relatable character. So, for what it’s worth my dude, I don’t think you’re doomed from the get go! I think good on you! It’s cool to see that you’re putting a lot of effort into building a character closely tied to your class. I’d love to RP with you sometime!

I kinda wish there were more Monk rpers who actually portray Monks. I feel as though the class kinda shares an issue with the hero classes, in that a lot of people prefer alternative class portrayals due to preconceptions/misconceptions or sheer ignorance of the class and its lore.

Though as I say this my first and oldest Monk character isn’t technically a Monk ic, so I suppose I’m part of the problem.

I think, perhaps, it’s because it’s a “personal dedication” class in lore, much like being a Shaman. But unlike Shaman, it’s much less diverse, and there’s way less to draw upon for inspiration.

So I imagine it’s like if Shaman were ALL just Orc Shaman and people who learned from Orc Shaman… and Orc Shaman weren’t also present in countless quests of every level.

I’ve considered that. Personally I think it’s hardly an excuse however; the specific cultural base. If handled well enough it could be a rather benign detail if one wanted.

Inspiration on the other hand is certainly a more understandable problem to me; at least in regards to in game examples. There are so few notable Monk characters in game, and even fewer among those who’ve done anything particularly impressive or iconic in recent memory; rather sad really.

Ah, innocence…

I’m 14 hours late to this but all of my characters are joke characters because I like to have fun and am also a clown.
