Evangelion was a good series that went into some depth about how absolute fanaticism blinded people to the horror of their actions, the neglect children faced from the hyper-competitive push to be the best you can be of the Japanese business/social/economic rebuilding model of that era, that saw people literally working themselves to death as much from social pressure as their own drive to succeed, social manipulation by governments of their citizens to keep them docile and compliant that was leading to people being placed in obscene danger just to maintain the status quo and, of course, the absolute stupidity of sending in children to fight wars, and how badly it would screw them up.
Unfortunately, like other people have pointed out, it was that era’s version of Rick and Morty and I still get into furniture-throwing arguments with people about the damn thing
