Well, people have used this thread to share hardships in their lives and people have used it to share good news in their lives.
What I’m looking for now is some nice, neutral news that leans no specific way.
I managed to get 6 hours of sleep last night.
It was neither good nor bad sleep, I simply slept.
3rd Degree Brown Belt accomplished today. 2 more levels of brown and then it’s black. Yeah boi
Yeah it ends on a VERY frustrating cliffhanger that’s never resolved and is in fact made worse in the DLC. It really is better to just assume it ended with Dead Space 2.
Beyond the ending, I thought 3 was a lot of fun. It’s definitely lacking that classic sense of scarcity and mounting dread but taken as an action sci-fi shooter its not nearly as awful as its made out to be.
Personally I believe the theory that their supposed original plot being leaked–involving Biotic/Mass Relay energy hastening the death of the universe and the human reaper being the Hail Mary Pass that Shepard inadvertently ruins by destroying it–made them panic and try to substitute a worse and far less interesting ultimate outcome. But no matter what the truth may be, I’ve never forgiven them for it. People have told me to treat Citadel as the true ‘ending’ and I just can’t do it.
I know someone who played the remake and said it was an absolute banger, enough that the news that EA is killing the franchise again is deeply, deeply annoying.
i bought a new lip balm that doesn’t dry out overnight like my old one and my lips weren’t nearly as chapped and cracked this morning when i got up.
That’s sort of the problem, honestly.
It’s not a cliffhanger.
It’s just an Ending.
Three Brother Moons over Earth + Establishment Earth was a one in a million planet in the galaxy and Human habitation extra-solar is struggling at best in a hostile, dead galaxy = Game Over.
Even if the colonies could survive without support from Earth, there was never any significant populations that could sustain a viable gene pool never mind suddenly being the last pockets of Humanity kept alive in hab structures never intended for long term habitation, and that’s before mentioning that they’re made by the lowest bidder possible because Earth is so resource starved it has to literally dismantle planets.
I know there’s documents talking about following Ellie trying to gather a resistance movement but I’m sorry…that’s not a story. That’s a pointless epilogue. Dead Space ends with the Necromorphs winning.
I’m actually pretty bummed that I’m going to miss the Midnight infodump happening today buuuuut it’s for a good reason.
I’m moving! Finally! After staying twelve years in a place that’s gotten progressively worse over time, I’m getting a fresh start (in the same town, just a much better housing community). I was hoping to get IRL new housing before in-game housing and it’s worked out that way.
Fingers crossed I can get back online sometime next week.
Please don’t burn down the realm while I’m gone (or, if you do, someone at least take screenshots).
Man…be careful with that one. I had a young lady quit her position and when asking her why she said she made plans to move in with a long distant boyfriend. Gave up her work, apartment, and most belongings. Since she gave notice, I offered to just let her call in sick 3 days, use vacation, call in sick again 3 days, then cash out PTO and unpaid time off allowances. She is a great worker and was never late, never took time off. She was back in 3 weeks, sans a place to live and her stuff. Had time off to spare. HR grilled my butt over it but my rebuttle was “How often do we get someone who never misses work, never late / leave early, completes tasks / tickets in a timely manner doing it well, never plays on their phones on the floor, take long bathroom breaks, etc…”. A year later, she got a new apartment, all fixed up, replaced her stuff… That was fairly easy because she still had her job intact with benefits. Had she returned several weeks later, the job would have been gone too as I would been forced to onboard a replacement.
They are rebooting the PBS classic “Reading Rainbow”
raises his cup of coffee and takes a sip then smiles.
I watch it sometimes with my son. one of the best theme songs
Reading Rainbow was a big part of my growing up, so I’m glad to see it brought back for new generations to enjoy and to highlight modern children’s book authors. The original Reading Rainbow still holds up beautifully, but there’s been a lot of great literature for young minds since it last broadcast and it’s good to bring back that spotlight.
Didn’t they already do that?
If they did, I just saw the announcement for the first time on my local news this morning. It came in between weather and sports, while I was reading your post about nice, neutral news. Lol.
Oh hey guys, what’s going on in here?
That’s great to hear. Honestly I was worried about some programs and projects like that when their PBS’ funding was cut this year. I guess the independent fundraising campaign’s helped that.
It may sound crazy, but the impact of Sesame Street alone is something heavily documented and researched. I’m struggling to think of any other shows still running to this day that have been as researched as that program. This past year I’ve lived in an urban area and now a very rural one, and the impact programs like Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow have been significant.
I can think of maybe one or two studies that reported negative effects DECADES ago, but there’s plenty of academic journals going into detail about the impact programs like that have had on low and middle class families and how it’s a valuable tool for the early development of kids. I’m no expert on early childhood education, but in my area, I could see how damaging losing those programs could be.
Cries of agony from ethereal and sethrak enjoyers around the globe.
Watching this Midnight Deep Dive and man, they HIT what makes a new expansion enticing. Perfect-freaking-narrator. I love it so much. I’m so mad I’m busy today that I’m watching it in pieces.
Watch the Q&A too, when you have the chance.
I’m old enough to predate the heavy adoption of Cable TV. Growing up, there were 5 channels - ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS. 9 days out of 10, FOX barely came in so that really didn’t count for much. ABC, NBC, and CBS signals varied on the wind strength (No, I’m not kidding. On a extremely windy day you couldn’t watch TGIF).
PBS always was crystal clear. PBS was the constant. Saturday Nights my PBS station ran Stargazer, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, and Mystery Science Theater 3000 - which was a driving force to how I became interested in all this nerdy stuff.
PBS offers a Digital Passport - their own platform. $60 a year gives you full access to the entire back catalogue of their original and current programming. Nature, NOVA, all the children’s programming, all their sponsored and funded documentaries.
All for 365 days.
All for the price of a new game.
Worse ways to spend $60.
