They’re getting rid of faction conflicts but bringing back Mountain Dew tie-ins.

I lived in a very small town. Music-wise I had 3 options in the late 70’s and early 80’s: county, R&B, and top 40 pop/rock. Until one day, I discovered a college radio station playing alternative music. My world expanded exponentially. We didn’t get MTV, because small town in the south, and MTV was run by demons and people possessed by the devil. But late at night on one of the channels videos would play and they had bands like The Smiths, The Cure, and Joy Division.
Kids today have no idea how good they have it in terms of access to music.
Hahahahaa. Small towns are great! We didn’t have cable tv at my house so I used to go over to my buddy’s house. Many nights spent playing DnD with MTV, he had cable, blasting in the background. Then I picked up a guitar and I was hooked to all the music I could get my hands on!
Afterthought:
That reminds me. I have to pick up that new book about R.E.M.!
Small towns have their pros and cons. I remember I had a creative writing teacher in High School who decided to use DnD has writing prompts. She got shut down real quick, because one parent accused her of being a witch and trying to expose the class to Satan. It all sounds so stupid now, and to be honest it sounded stupid then too. I’m just glad my parents were cool.
Nice! I was lucky to have the parents I had. They never cut us off from any of the music that my sister and I found entertaining.
Found out years later they actually listened to it just so they were familiar with it.
Comfortably Numb is probably my favorite of theirs. I saw one of their last concerts. It wasn’t as enjoyable as I’d’ve liked. A lot of jamming.
Bring on the bulgogi!
My mom was like this. It took me hours to convince her to give me back my D&D books after I’d bought them because she was convinced they were the devil.
I think there was one church/cult (it was a one off church of some denomination that went poof when the preacher literally left town in the middle of the night) in my town that would have gladly hosted witch burnings if they could have. They hosted book and album burnings and members had vivid accounts of demons appearing in the flames, and of demons being cast out of people. Said demons looked like horned monkeys and would fly around the church before they ran out the front door. I wish I was making this stuff up.
I’m sick so I’m treating myself to door dash and getting bulgogi kimbap and beef rib soup
I have learned calling my dog stinky gives him big feelings and now he’s running around with the zoomies. He’s a rescue so I’m wondering if he is connecting it to baths, which is a word he knows and supppper hates. Anyway he’s stinky
I would love some bulgogi right now.
My yorkie knew what the word “bath” was (I said ‘baff’ to her, but she knew exactly what that meant. She had quite a vocabulary). She also hated baffs and would fuss about it.
She also knew if I said “she,” it was referring to her.
My current goober is smart, but his vocabulary is smaller and mostly focused on food, treat and toy words.
A table consisting of an enormous bulgogi platter and accompanying sides spread out. I guess most recommend pairing a sweet dry wine with it, but I prefer bold red, preferably from Portugal.
Also, don’t forget to vote today.
I’ve seen Primus so i’ve just decided “close enough.” I should probably listen to Primus’s albums but I feel like they wouldn’t be as good as they were live.
Pink Floyd definitely did seem like an A+ jam band, though.
I don’t do wine, but I would love to have a lettuce leaf stuffed with all the sides. Sad story - last time I was at a Korean restaurant, they didn’t give me lettuce leaves with bulgogi and I had to ask. Apparently Americans don’t know how to eat it and they just pick at the sides like they’re sides
I spent two days working on stream setup only to realize Plunderstorm isn’t happening until 2025.
But I have things set up which is nice.
I had OBS 2 computers ago, but I never finished setting it up. I kept getting mic echo and then we decided not to bother streaming. I should set it up again. I have a possible use for it next year.
See, Thokk, this is what I like to see. Advanced thinking. Thinking in advance.
But for real Id like to stream some plunderstorm too. Could be fun!
This really can’t be overstated. My musical horizons never broadened until I was in College and MySpace started to be a thing. An ex of a High School friend reached out to me and we communicated for a while, and it was through her I discovered bands like Kamelot which threw me down the well I currently am in listening to Punk covers of Broadway show tunes. (Seriously, I wish I could post links. Check out “Defying Gravity” by Matt Copley. It’s like an anthem for Dynamic Flying)
Those were the days. A bunch of bored yokels in the middle of nowhere with a battered copy of the AD&D Core Rulebook and Monster Manual and nothing but time. Vanndrel kinda started gestating there, since I’ve always gravitated towards Ranger play styles. Just a shame even 20 years later, I cannot have a Raccoon as a pet.
Civic Duty done. Now I’m going to escape into the Lands Between and hope for the best.
We’re streaming WoW tonight anyway. The BC Timewalking Vendor has some new stuff and I need that mount.
Also, I voted today.
The Police kick a$$. Just starting to listen to them?
Just saw we’re talking music taste so…
Best band ever in the history of music? Journey. They are the greatest objectively.
I’ve seen in concert:
Journey (obviously)
Rush
Queensryche
Ozzie
Heart
Pat Benatar
Usher
The Eagles
Brad Paisley
ZZ Top
The Pretenders
Legs Diamond
Steve Miller Band
Def Leppard
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Midland
Celine Deon
Lady Gaga
Truimph
Saxon
There may be more but Rock and Roll has always been KING.
Some artists I want to see:
Most Freestyle Artists
Temptations
Whitesnake
Daft Punk (probably not possible)
Dokken
Also does bum rushing Steve Aoki count as “seeing?”
Welp. It was a good run. Someone get the lights on the way out.
If chronic clinical depression hadn’t robbed me of the ability to feel things other than hunger, temperature, and irritation, I’d probably be crying right now.
