WW hotfix feedback - Revert Darting Hurricane nerf and give us an aura nerf

To preface, wind walker since the rework has been arbitrarily plagued with a problem of having too many resources when they don’t need it, and alternatively for conduit builds sometimes they have both that problem and an issue of not having enough resources when they do need it.

This has been arbitrarily baked into the spec with the haste stacking and chi cheating in the burst window via Ordered Elements

A solution to help alleviate this problem for both Shado Pan and Conduit was darting hurricane helping you cheat GCDS in those situations of over-abundance resources, it felt super good and super fun to min-max.

A recent hotfix set on Sept. 17th will nerf this talent, and force us to not play with it anymore.

I am greatly confused about this change because if the purpose was to nerf monk damage, it is a failure because in some scenarios the talent is just as strong as another talent, and even in pure single target its about a 1.5% loss in damage, so not much of a nerf.

If the purpose of the change was to help people who struggled with playing the talent, it is also a failure since those people could just play with a different talent for almost equal damage? I would rather you just nerf our damage abilities rather than changing the only talent that allows us to help alleviate the problems you guys created for the spec.

The hotfix just reduces the fun of the spec since now you will be wasting even more resources without it, and also the talent just played into a core fantasy of monk of swiftly comboing enemies. It was super fun to both playstyles and fit right in so all I want is a clarification on why it was changed?

Was it changed because people struggled with it or was it changed to nerf the spec? We want to know.

Either way, both reasons to change it are bad reasons. Just nerf damage abilities don’t change functionalities unless they are obscenely broken which Darting Hurricane was not as changing the talent changes the way monk plays forever because you guys will never change it back after it is changed while nerfing our aura by 2% is just a temporary change while keeping the identity of the spec which is what is important.

Blizzard HAS answered this for you, just not directly. You have to read between the lines. They removed Pulsar from Balance Druid, one of the only “skill expressions” left in the spec. And last week they removed the spell queueing “double dip” from Arcane, a very fun part of the gameplay loop and the single biggest skill expression.

Neither were about nerfing damage. Blizzard could have nerfed damage in a dozen other ways, they were both targeted at reducing the skill cap of the specs - making those specs easier for casuals to play.

Enter a Darting Hurricane nerf on week 3 even though Windwalker is b-tier on most lists.

Follow along, OP. It’s really not hard to see why this was nerfed. It’s the same as the Boomie and Arcane nerfs. Blizzard doesn’t want niche, timing dependent micro optimizations in TWW DPS specs. They’re hunting them down one by one.

Mad? Should be. The Boomies mostly quit the spec and the mage feedback on the double dipping removal has been HATEFUL. Good luck.

It is a badly designed talent, would rather they change it completely. I don’t think a damage nerf is even needed.

Yeah honestly they should make another talent to replace it. I feel like the capstones in WW are missing that “oomph” that other classes have.

Windwalker does not need a nerf. Please don’t make these kinds of suggestions. Just ask for a reversion.

WW is literally an upper quartile spec, it does not need nerfs.

I personally dont like Windwalker wanting haste now. When it was Crit/vers all i had to do to for tanking was swap my trinkets and maybe jewelry lol… It gave the monk that “patience” feel instead of stacking haste like a foaming-at-the-mouth warrior.

It feels great, I’m glad it’s back. I have been waiting years ever since they decided to never make haste useful again as the devs stated back in WoD because basicly it made it us too good at high haste levels. I can finally feel like Kenshiro again. Now if only my friend would log on so we can do things instead of being stuck solo on my paladin…

This is your subjective opinion because I think it is a brilliantly designed talent. Its a talent that is giving you damage without directly influencing your numbers by simply changing the way you interact with your spells. Like said, it plays into the core fantasy of the spec, and also I do think monk numbers should be toned down they are quite high for how easy it is.

You clearly aren’t playing the same game because wind walker is top 3 highest simming classes in the game at max gear

I’m new to WW. Can someone even explain this talent. What is the big benefit of reducing tiger palm gcd by 50%. Its not like you go back to back tiger palms? Isn’t the gcd up after you cast another skill?

I’m sure a nerd can give you specific math, but during high-haste windows (Hint: when our celestial is active) we’re wanting to get in as many globals as possible. Since we still need chi during SEF+xuen, superfast tiger palms is letting us fit in more stuff. Well, was. 0.25s off the GCD is…yeah.

You are the one suggesting that the entire class should get a % nerf because of an optional talent.

It is badly designed because there is no visual indicator unless you have a weakaura to react to that .5 second window you gain (on random procs). You can spam your abilities after every tiger palm or they can just make it do anything like this following:

Darting Hurricane - Next 2 Tiger Palm after Strike of the Windlord ---->

  1. Extend the Duration of SEF by 1 second. (during SEF)
  2. Add 1 second to the duration of your next SEF. (procs & sotwl outside of SEF)

Theres no visual indicator for many buffs in the game so not sure what your point is with that, the entire point of wa’s is to help you play more efficiently, and it is not required because what you said is completely wrong because its not just random you know for a fact you will atleast have 2 procs of darting hurricane after a strike of the wind lord…?

If the talent was poorly designed and they wanted to change it they wouldn’t just nerf it they would change it lol, and this suggested change to make it affect SEF is probably the most boring and low value concept I’ve seen, it would amount to a percentage of your damage breakdown and nobody cares about SEF lol

It is effectively what it does. All it does it let you get another ability or two in SEF. Who cares. Nearly every passive on our tree is already boring.

When you are doing your combo in a rhythm of normal GCDs, one fast one completely randomly, a few times a minute, isn’t at all interesting. If you aren’t spamming your abilities to queue it, you will miss it. You might find it interesting, but at least the random procs are stupid.

Maybe instead of the boring thing it does now or what I suggested, it actually does something that feels impactful?

Maybe something like:

  • Next 2 Tiger Palms activate Strike of the Windlord at ~20% effective damage and extends RJW by 5 seconds.

or

  • Strike of the Windlord activates Serenity/SEF for 5 seconds.

These would be super fun to press.

I don’t care what it’s simming. I care what it’s LOGGING. Real scenarios, not fantasy ones.

And the logs are freely available this week. WW is upper middle of the pack.

WW does not need nerfs.

Your idea of fun: % damage increase
My idea of fun: something that actually changes the way you play in a meaningful way and also increases your damage at the same time and creates less waste in the rotation

Completely subjective, if your idea of fun is buttons 1 2 and 3 do a little bit more damage that is the most caveman brained idea of fun I’ve ever heard no offense lol, and randomly activating SEF all the time would be cancer to play with, that would be affecting the gameplay negatively which is the opposite of “super fun” as you would have to constantly be refixation, keeping track of all the bugs such as last gcd of sef going away the clones will not clone the damage leading to damage loss by proxy, like nobody wants that at all lol

If you miss the window in which you get a shortened gcd thats called a skill issue which is easily fixable, it is actually the opposite of boring because the entire fantasy of monk is swift versatile combos with many approaches of attacking

Monk is doing lots of damage in my raid idk lol, doing alot of damage in all the top guilds raids, looking at a wcl statistics page is probably the least viable way of telling what class is decent or not because frost dk is garbage but on 3 fights in the raid it is extremely op as 1 example, like common you weren’t born yesterday you understand the concept of different damage profiles are better for different bosses lol

If ww is doing that much single target and that much aoe it is called being a broken spec dawg not middle of the pack you linking tierlists just represents how little you understand about the game

The primary stat is Agility and a key feature is torpedoing through the air. I don’t see the patience angle here.

You can still take those other stats, but it was dummy dumb when haste was useless.

At 250 ms, your bonus is eaten by latency alone. Trying to GCD clip to micro trash design gets really bad with more players too.

WW is pretty strong atm, but holy hell WW is just upper mid in dmg compare to other classes in m+. I am really hoping they will soon nerf enhance/ret/dk, these three are just way beyond bullcrap in m+.

A 603 DK with one 597 1h and a 606 mainhand was nearly matching my 613 WW monk and the 613 devastation evoker with 619 weapons for overall damage.

At least ret can fall off a bit on bosses even though their aoe is ridiculous. But DK has great single target on top of god aoe and survivability as well as utility.

And in this new meta of caster mob spam, the class that can yank them all to the group has a massive utility advantage as well.

And unlike other melee, DK’s and Ret are semi-ranged melee specs, with DK’s having a ranged interrupt and ret having little issue with downtime due to ranged spenders and builders while the rest of the melee have to be kissing the face of the mob to even be able to interrupt.
