Objectively, and commercially, there is no reason to not have either of these paid services available yet. Not having them is annoying to players, as well as denying yourselves some additional income.
Neither affects the ‘vanilla experience’, and might even rescue some players from abandoning the game all together as they would rather go elsewhere (as in another game all together) than have to re-level again on a new server just because their existing server no longer suits their needs/wants.
With all these huge imbalances and free transfers already being available and still to this day 1 month after launch. Then yes I believe it is definitely valid. This whole reputation thing and making a name for yourself does work, however with the free transfers I believe that tarnished any of the “reputation” arguments.
As anyone right now can pack their bags and move to one of the low pop servers, its also another incentive for blizzard to make money. Some of us just want to play on a fairly balanced server with friends and a super active population.
The people on skeram and stalagg (soon enough herod and others) chose the worst possible realms. With huge server imbalance, no new player drive (meaning all new players are alts and not new ones joining the server)
These realms will 100% die off and either a super merge is going to be needed or paid transfers which I believe should come out before p2, because of how imbalanced the servers are; causing players to either abandon ship or stick it out till better options come by. No new player drive means the servers will eventually collapse.
The name change thing is a little different, not sure if thats the best idea. Paid transfers at least forces the player to leave that server if they want a “name change”
To be fair, the concept of classic is great, but staying with the ‘character Y is glued to server x’ structure is very out dated. With layers, phases, etc, there is very small reason to not have the world server be clustered between multiple ‘character servers’, similar to what they did with retail but on a much grander scale.
Short of this, and in keeping with the existing classic framework - paid renames and transfers are not too much to ask.
There is actually a reason to want to have paid renames in place, and gives Blizzard an out in another situation, it just is not part of this discussion… nor will it be. So if all you are here to do is troll with rude and unrelated remarks, not adding anything relevant to the request, just keep on moving
Hope Blizzard will not again make the mistake and cater to the disruptive type of players that want to avoid consequences of their wrong doings and bad behaviors.
We know where that got us…
Blizzard could easily make ignores and bans account wide, without exposing any player info, they just choose not to do so, which is a topic for another discussion thread.
What is that reason? Other than trying to run from a blacklist because youre ninjaing stuff, or youre attempting to get a new identity for other reasons? Name changes are too susceptible to abuse and are detrimental to a server’s community reputation
They have had multiple opportunities to implement a ‘legacy’ name system as SWTOR did, then make bans/ignores apply to the ‘legacy’ rather than individual characters. making objections to character renames moot. Why they continue to decline to do so… they have also declined to answer, so pester them about it.
In a way, we already have the groundwork for such a system in place with bNet accounts, and sub account links. Just need to add a public bNet ‘legacy’ name, and add those fields to the guild/who/etc and then adjust ignore/ban system accordingly.
The other topic reason is still off the table. Feel free to ASSume all you like, not going to change.
