WSG thoughts from an OG

Hey guys happy Thursday!

WSG just isnt fun 90% of the time. I mostly join premade groups, we stomp on pugs, mindless honor farm and quick caps. Everyone wants quick rep. Well, back in the day it wasnt about rep it was about the challenge and the actual PvP experience.

On the pug side, getting smashed 90% of the time by a premade with absolutely no chance isnt fun either. After alot of thought on this topic, i absolutely think that there needs to be some sort of remedy to this. WSG has become a rep farm for most, and nothing more. Lots of toxicity as well. its just a shame.

WSG used to be exciting and competitive. Is anyone getting this vibe at all anymore? Im not sure what the exact remedy is, im not a game developer, but the current experience isnt fun at all.

Over exaggerated numbers I assume…

Yeah WSG needs a timer and the last cap rule. Would 100% make it 10x more bearable. As of now, I refuse to pug it and or premade it. Zero fun regardless of what side you’re on.

Its just the transactional nature of todays players. Its the same reason GSKP are big right now. people want rewards for their time spent and will gravitate to whatever is best value.

I hate to tell you but nothing new here. I used to LOVE AV in Vanilla. Epsic games lasting days. Parades in Ironforge for actually winning the game.

When classic launched it was a nonstop rep run with super fast games of rushing the boss. Once the alliance all had their rep, the alliance went from winning every game to winning nothing. It was peoples third or 4th alts and whatever.

That is the problem with BGs. At a certain point there really is no reason to do them. Just like raids. At a certain point, unless your gearing new people, there is not reason to do older raids. But in some cases there is still life to older raids to get Thunderfury. So MC still gets run. But BGs? yeah there is not Thunderfurry reward

It was boring then, too.

Definitely this, but I don’t think it’s meant to be taken as scientific. More like, “I’m not having fun like I used to.”

I feel as though this is multifaceted, and a couple of the variables are that SoD is intended to appeal to both older folks (by older I mean all of age, values, generation, culture, experience with the game), and younger folks.

There are people who don’t care at all about the BG objectives in WSG. They just want to get whatever rewards for themselves they can. They further have zero shame. They will not only sit around doing nothing, they will harass others for trying to play the game. And they’ll blame Blizzard for poor game design, and say they are forced to grind rep for bracers.

There are people who want to do their best, and work with whatever team they have to overcome the greatest of obstacles and difficulties. Some who may even find the challenge of motivating the unmotivated to be worth stepping up to the plate for.

And there seem to be some in-between, but these two extremes don’t seem to be well suited to play together, and the game design of WSG seems to exacerbate this. Of course Blizzard has psychologists and it’s up to the devs to make use of the tools they have available to them while attempting to cultivate whatever culture they would like.

I suspect over the next phases we’ll see things like what sorts of community culture the devs are trying to cultivate, who this game is made for, and whether that means we all get along, don’t get along at all, or some or all of us go in different directions.

Since the number 90% was brought up, I will finish this comment with a number myself. I 100% stand behind this comment:

No, it wasn’t boring at all. I remember doing a lot of bg’s, solo and with friends and everybody, almost always, had a great time.

I recall epic av’s from almost 20 years ago, that is not what i would call boring.
On other hand, raids, even in vanilla, got boring pretty quick.

You don’t need to keep logging on alt accounts to make your 1 digit posts. We get it. There is a match making system coming in p2. Stop the incessant whine posting

Incorrect.

The fact that you quoted only that part and not included my argument explaining why i think so, says so much about you and about what you stand for, here in this forums…

Like me, there are many people that played 20 years ago which can recall specific av’s and other bg’s, because, you now what?! They weren’t boring!

As with almost everything: “Different strokes for different folks”

Take off your nostalgia goggles.

Who is this even addressed to?

There were not as many premades in vanilla. I think this is why people remember it more fondly. You spent significantly less time as a pug getting curb stomped by premades. There we definitely premades, but were only created for fun competition or if you were going to a warlord/Marshal grind.

Right now every pve andy in the game and their mom are running these bottom of the barrel LFG premades for easy rep.

I dont mind solo queueing and getting farmed by a premade every now and then, but when it makes up the overwhelming majority of your queue session it is just a waste of time.

Sod has cross server BGs and that’s why there’s more groups. I played in OG and there were 1000% premades for the purpose of ranking. It’s no different than today besides cross server qs

WSG used to be exciting and competitive.

This is where you’ve lost me.

WSG has always been the worst battleground. (at least now you could argue AV, but back in the day AV was pretty cool)

AB is the only battleground that functions properly.

Even the remake in MOP stinks. Capture the flag is just not a fun a game mode. It’s the laziest kind of objective based pvp. The science-fair-volcano equivalent of competitive gaming.

100% there were bunch of premades for ranking that’s why I mentioned the hwl/ marshal grind.

The layering explanation doesent make sense to explain premade dominance. You need to look at player behavior, the number of players queuing only affects queue times not the likelihood of facing a premade.

It seems more people are deciding to queue as a premades in sod compared to vanilla. I would say the main reason for that is lvl cap of 25 combined with the rep rewards.

Everyone knows the fastest way to exalted is premade farming pugs. So it’s what everyone is doing. In vanilla WSG rep rewards weren’t as big of a deal due to multiple factors: no lvl 25 cap, no honor caps and the fact a lot of people probably just didn’t know or care about it.

Same kinda lament I have for AV.

AV 2019 was damned amazing.
AV2020 and 2021? People would get legitimately mad if you did anything other than Zugg to Vann killing the LTs and waiting for the loss.

Has 2 posts on the forums … makes (yet) another thread complaining about WSG … AND claims they’re an “OG”.

Sec … waiting for my eyes to stop rolling.
