It is done as an group unban action even if the person does not file an appeal. All accounts that meet the criteria of the mistake, get the flag lifted, the account penalty removed, and an apology. Sometimes game time compensation as well.
It certainly is not a bad idea to appeal if someone feels the action is not justified, but even if they don’t, false positives are generally reversed without someone needing to ticket. It does not happen very often, but it has happened in the past.
I’m saying if they do the appeal and get the 99.999% penalty upheld template response, might a lot of players feel they’re just screwed and give up? There’s probably a cost/benefit analysis I suppose. I’m sure Blizz doesn’t want to give an innocent player the death penalty (figuratively speaking). I’m just curious what they think about falsely banned players who give up after their rejected appeal. Collateral damage I guess.
This is nice. Assuming it’s quick, and before the player has given up and quit. Hopefully, it’s a small number of lost players who never come back after an errant ban. I mean, it should be zero, of course. But that’d be pretty hard to achieve.
Anyway, thanks for indulging. Have a great evening. And go out and kill some gnomes for me.
Oh wow, they actually gave you a reason? That’s more than I got the one time I got hit with a 6 month a years and years back.
Nearest I can tell this was back around the time where Nvidia cards were being detected as bots for some insane reason combined with my habit if farming an fishing for extended periods on my druid while working from home between calls. Either way, never did find out why and I almost completely quit at that point.
Is there any way to get an update on the status of a ticket or appeal? I know you said that it’s up for review, which I appreciate, but it’s been nearly a week without a word. It’s an absolutely gut wrenching wait.
The appeals them works on their own time table - the blues here won’t have any internal knowledge, at least able to speak on it before its released from said team.
The same exact thing happened to me on the same day. I have no idea why I was banned and the automated responses I received didn’t clarify anything other than I was reported by a fellow player. I have no clue why as I don’t hack bot or cheat. I don’t have any idea what I did wrong so I have no way to avoid whatever it was in the future. My season of discovery is over, there’s an empty spot on my raid team now, and I’m completely heartbroken. How could I ever return knowing this could happen at any time to anyone. To lose everything you loved and worked for in Azeroth gone in the blink of an eye for seemingly no reason, other than someone somewhere reported me for some reason. That’s a terrifying thought. Best of luck.
Someone may have reported you, but there was conclusive evidence that you’ve cheated somehow. The report itself is not proof of your wrongdoing.
If you’ve appealed several times and they’ve told you that you can’t appeal any further they’ve gone over the evidence sufficiently enough that there’s no doubt about whatever is in it, you were convincingly cheating.
It’s not “automated” responses either, just the same template used by the GM’s if they uphold the ban. If they overturn the ban you will receive a different template. That’s all there is to it.
