Writing issues

[B]alance and revision of core systems based on feedback and data from the season so far.

First off, I’m glad to see that. The 9.1.5 changes look to be all to the good, and are a decent first step in righting this terribly off-kilter ship.

Your bigger problem, to me, is the storyline. The fact is, Shadowlands just isn’t very well-written, regardless of the Covenant we’re talking about. It’s lazy, and it follows on a very disappointing 8.3 patch.

Two random Mawsworn manage to just fly off with Anduin from the middle of SW? Really? Because…he’s stronger than that. Coming out of the Maw is something nobody else does. Except…literally everyone? There’s only one place we can do it, the Jailer knows where it is, and…he doesn’t just park his army there, waiting for us to teleport in and kill us? We wander around his fortress with impunity? And for some reason, in 9.1, we get REAL stupid on demand when it comes to the seals. Like…we fight this big old battle to protect the seal of the Winter Queen only to find out she left the thing in the nightstand back home, totally unprotected? There’s just so many little inconsistencies that suspending disbelief is really, really difficult.

And on top of all that, by showing us the afterlife you’ve ultimately taken the suspense out of WoW. If everyone dies…that’s not so bad, anymore, in any expac after this one.

Warcraft has been an ever-evolving storyline, and that’s what’s kept me playing since 2004. I’m one of your OG vanilla players, and I love being told stories and using my character to tell stories within the context you create. The only time I quit playing for a while was WoD–when you went off the rails with your story. I’m considering doing it again, because your writing, imo, has been abyssmal for the last couple of years.

Where is the WoW that gave us Wrath of the Lich King? Where is the Blizzard that did Legion? Where are those writers, and can we have them back? Because this edge-lord stuff is just…stale.

Kyrian Mawsworn is everyone to you?

This is the same team that had us find the Primus’ sigil that was already hidden from the Jailer AND had a protective ward on it, then proceed to want to break that protective ward by bringing it to the Runecarver, who was literally chained up in the Jailer’s house.

It’s also obvious they had no clue where they were going with the story when they made 9.0. The sigils, these super powerful objects that the Jailer should NEVER get his hands on were never mentioned once until 9.1 dropped. It’s like if the Pillars of Creations never existed until we walked into Tomb of Sargeras and Khadgar just whipped them out. It’s horrible writing.

There’s a highway at that waystone. Torghast is filled with people who you rescue and send back. The brokers seem to come and go at will when they’re looking for Ven’ari. Pulling souls out of the Maw and sending them back was basically what you did in 9.0.

Nobody escapes Strangle thorn vale…I mean the Maw…I mean your level 2 garrison…wait, what are we talking about?

This may be the single best thing I’ve ever read on the forums.

But the werewolf old dude was screaming, so that counts for something right?

It’s all written for kids not 40 yr old gamers.

I just thought it was kind of hilarious in BfA when Queen Azshara managed to get the Tidestone after we left it unguarded. And why was it unattended? Because they removed those portals and nobody ever went into the display room anymore.

And we get to Nazjatar and have to recover the Scepter of Tides as part of the opening scenario, and I’m like, “Wait! I have that in my bank!”

I wish the bad guys got a big win once. Idk much about SL cuz it’s so painful for me to play, but I’d be perfectly fine if the jailer won and reset the game. Where does the story even go from here?

We end up in a shower in a high-end home outside of Dallas and we turn and say good morning to Victoria Principal?

Idk, might be too predictable at this point.

  1. If that’s the case then they’ve largely missed their audience, and

  2. It is possible to write something consistently while addressing it to children.
