UPDATE: November 3, 2022

A Discord has been created to continue to discuss these matters and also to facilitate out-of-game RP’s. Please come and join us and help us to create a community of writers here on Moon Guard.

Thank you to Eliza Marrow!
--------------------

Hey there, everyone.

I’ve been on the server a while and haven’t done a lot of RPing recently. It’s more due to a lack of time and interest, though I do still keep up with my own characters’ stories.

In short, I’m wondering if there’s a writer’s community here on MoonGuard or a guild that caters mostly to writers and disaffected RPer’s who might/maybe occasionally want to do some forum or Discord RP’s.

Nine times out of ten when I’m logged on online, I mostly just want to be playing the game, or trying to figure out how to do that (since with all the new talent trees and the like, it’s been something of an adventure just trying to figure out what might be good choices). But I also enjoy talking about the lore or even just saying hello–finding out what others are up to, or having a nice place to ask for help if i’m looking for it. But also…I want to be in a guild that suits my characters and not XYZ Incorporated, or whatever the new-fangled thing is. Communities seem to hit that sweet spot, but most of them that I’ve been in have sort of died or petered out–assuming the communities feature is even working, of course.

In short, I really just want to be around others who like to write about their characters, maybe have a discord RP sesh or two, have a group to hang out with if I ever do go to those server events, and people with whom I can chat about lore and the like. Loving words is a plus.

If you know of anything like this or are a part of something like this, please feel free to reach out.

Thanks, all!

Just updating the discord link. Looking forward to exploring the Dragon Isles with all of you soon! – Chani

As a writer, I’d be up for joining a writer’s community for sure. My in-game time is so random & limited (especially on this character) that this type of RP would be fabulous, especially if linked into in-game encounters as well.

Blackwater Company is an awesome guild, I just don’t have the time to participate in their events these days.

I look forward to seeing where this thread leads!

I’ve heard good things about the Blackwater company! So they might be a good place to check out.

Outside of that most guilds I’m aware of have some level of discord RP. It varies a lot from guild to guild. Maybe something to inquire specific guilds that you see about that peak your interest? I’ve known people who primarily rp on discord due to work schedules to simply personal preference so there is definitely other like minded people out there!

I resonate with this so much. I love playing in-game but Discord RP is my priority and preference. I would love to maybe see if that is a community or a guild worth forming. I may explore this at some point. I also know a lot of players who don’t like that, and that’s cool. But having more friends to connect up with would be super cool.

Yes,
I feel the same way. I enjoy in game RP, but I find myself with much more time for Discord RP at the moment.

Hey!

It’s great to see that there are a few people who have some interest in this sort of thing. I’m guessing a lot of you already have guilds but aren’t or can’t do much with them.

After reading through the replies and the like, perhaps it might be best to start with a Discord? We could discuss ideas there, and maybe transition that in-game to a Community.

I’d prefer to center it around writing rather than a guild; that way, it allows players to stay playing how they want to without needing to leave or join something that might not fit with their characters. Also, if situations change, people might be able to RP with their guilds again but also then have this group of fellow writers when and if they can’t.

I’ve plenty of alts, though, if someone wanted to put together a guild for this, and I have a lot of ideas on how it could be done (calling it the “Writer’s Guild” or something similar, for example).

But starting small and growing from there seems best. With the new expansion coming, I expect a lot of us are going to have stories and journals that we’ll want to cast into the void. Having others to share our thoughts, ideas, and questions with here on Moon Guard would be a definite plus, and having a dedicated place to RP with others outside of the game (since a lot of us will probably be playing the game or having RL stuff going on that precludes this), would be really cool.

I don’t know a lot about Discord, though–or know a lot about the in-game communities. So, I’d be more than happy to let someone else take the lead with that and I’ll contribute in other ways.

There are a few caveats I have with regard to this:

  • I’d prefer that we be allowed to have mature stories, but I’d prefer people leave explicit sex scenes …out of the community.
  • No child pornography. Period.
  • No using other people’s characters in stories without express permission from their creator.
  • And lastly, it’s important to me that we be inclusive rather than exclusive. We may all have different beliefs, but harm and hate of others is kind of where I draw the line. Our characters can be the worst miscreants in the world, but at the end of the day, we, their creators, shouldn’t be. I’d like our community to not be a den for harm or hate.

And that’s about it.

So…where do we go next, y’all?

I think easiest way is just to create a server. Obviously there are questions of how to regulate if, but offering a platform for those seeking Discord RP OR at least find partners seems reasonable. I can toss one together but would want to work with someone to moderate it.

I could help with discord, not a pro by any means, but i could help mod.

Thanks for putting this together! :purple_heart:

I went ahead and joined, and I’d definitely encourage anyone who’s interested in chatting about writing, lore, or Discord and/or forum RP’s–to do the same. It’s a great time to come together to create this community of writers here on Moon Guard, and I really look forward to seeing where this goes.

Hey, everyone!

We are getting things together over on Discord right now, and it’s a really great time to get involved if you’re interested in writing, discord RP’s, and being a part of Moon Guard’s community of writers. Since we’re just starting out, your voice and thoughts can help contribute to the direction of our growing group; so, please consider joining us if you haven’t already and would like to see something like this flourish.

I’m definitely looking forward to continuing to watch our community grow and thrive, and I really hope you’ll be a part of it.

:purple_heart: :open_book: :purple_heart:

The community over on Discord is growing quite a bit, and we’d love to see you there, too. It’s a great way to meet fellow writers and role-players, to chat about lore, or to just hang out with a group of fellow word-slingers. So if you’re on the fence, please feel free to come and check the Discord out.

Here’s to hoping your writing and character journeys blossom in the upcoming Dragonflight expansion!

I wasn’t really all that aware of how the threads feature worked, but I’m certain that if you brought it up, we could probably get that going. I’d be happier to see something like that. Gives people a bit more room to RP in various scenes without them openly conflicting.

Thanks for the suggestion, and please keep them coming. If I don’t see this mentioned by the time I get around to poking my head in there today, I’ll mention it to Elyza.

I think we’d be happy to have writers from any server, really, though a lot of in-game connections will be harder if you’re not from Moon Guard or WRA. That said, feel free to poke friends who like to write about their characters on any server. With cross-realm invites a thing, and sharding being what it is, there’s no reason we can’t all play and write together these days.

Can confirm, this is for any server. It might not work best for EU//Pacific due to time differences but I implore them to join regardless.

I’m so happy that our little community is growing! There are so many new faces in the past few weeks, and I just want to say welcome to all of you and thank you for helping to start this thing.

I am experimenting with Discord RP atm, and it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!

If you’re interested in writing, stories, character building, have questions about RP, or just want to hang with a group of people who love words, please consider joining us. We’d really like to share your company.

Welcome to Dragonflight Day, everyone! :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

If you’re coming back to the game after a hiatus, or if you’ve been here the whole time, we’d love to invite you to join us on our discord!

Eliza has been keeping things moving along–adding some forums to the channel (via threads!), and people continue to post and work on their writing in the meantime.

We’d love to have you join us as you head out on your adventures through Dragonflight and beyond; so, …stop in and say hello!

We’ll be waiting! :dracthyr_love_animated:

Imma join. I actually had a few books published some years back and don’t even know where to post RP stories the days, so… might be a good fit.

We’d be honored to have you join us, Iravaeth! It’s a very much “do things at your own pace” kind of community, but it’s nice to have some fellow writers to throw things at the wall with. They’re also some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

See you in WoA, and hopefully the Dragon Isles, too! :sunflower:
