I have a feeling Dagran II won’t end up as the next Dwarven ruler. They hyped Wrathion up to be Aspect and then chose something else. I wonder if the same will happen to Dagran II. I see a lot of parallels between him, Wrathion, and Anduin.
Do you think Blizzard will do a bait and switch?

I’m curious, what other parallels do you see?
Other than Dagran and Wrathion sharing rather suspect fathers.
They’re two upstarts who seek to rule.
Wrathion was an upstart, who felt that he deserved to lead. However I don’t see Dagran as an upstart. Furthermore unlike Wrathion, Dagran has the legal claim to rulership. He is the heir of both the Bronzebeard and Dark Iron clans and the Council of Three Hammers is a regency that is meant to dissolve when he comes of age to rule. Though exactly where this will leave the Wildhammer is uncertain.
Now could Dagran abdicate? It’s possible, but it’s also possible that instead of the Council of Three Hammers dissolving, Dagran will decide to retain them as his personal advisors. We just don’t know how Blizzard plans on developing his story.

That’d be really lame, I hope they don’t do that. The person ruling the bronze and dark iron dwarves should be the descendent of those groups ruling lineages.
I think they’re pretty solid on the triumvirate. And whatever her intentions may be, I don’t think that Ironforge nor the Wildhammers would stand for Moira taking two of the three triumvirate seats by proxy.
Dagran has no desire to rule. He just wants to read his books and get his learning on.

I’ve always liked the idea of dagran being this kind of reserved mage, and he gets with an absolutely crazy wildhammer princess.

I like even better that his class would be what we’d call in D20 and Pathfinder, an expert. Not an adventuring type at all. He certainly however has taken both Diplomacy and Intimidation as class skills and maxed them out.
Nah, let him get together with a frostmane troll and watch Moira suddenly have to come to terms with the feelings her father did when she eloped.

Unless the former Dagran had a child with another Dark Iron which was never mentioned, I don’t see how Dagran could end up in the same situation as Wrathion.
Besides, he’s not like Wrathion. I imagine if another contender for the throne arose he’d give up his claim in a heartbeat and go back to his books. That could make for an interesting story if the people want Dagran because the other guy is a total tyrant, forcing Dagran to grow and rose to the throne for the sake of the dwarves, but speaking for myself I like Dagran as he is now. I hope if/when he does grow, it doesn’t completely change his character until he’s unrecognizable.

Honestly for political sake and unity of the dwarves. If Dagran marries a Wildhammer the 3 clans would be united by marriage and by blood and if he can find a Wildhammer princess of equal standing then the three clans would have to accept his legitimacy as the absolute ruler of the 3 nations.
Technically by blood and by law he is the next King/Emperor of the Dark Irons and Bronzebeard making him the ruler of both Shadowforge City and Ironforge. Aerie Peak would merely be an outlier, but a marriage is perhaps his best option, but Moira married for love and I doubt she’d be so forceful to make him marry a woman he did not love nor did not want as a wife.
Also he’s what 17-18 years old? He’s got time to sire an heir. Hopefully he will marry for love as his parents Moira and Dagran I did.

I don’t know if that matters when calling him an upstart.
It depends on how one views what an upstart is. Like Wrathion’s sense of entitlement to Aspectship confirmed him an upstart to me.
Idk, I don’t think the word “upstart” would imply he never had a claim to the Throne before. It just means he’s risen to prominence quickly.

I think the short story is also quick to stablish that Moira has been basically teaching him the ways, not in an oppressive manner as Magni did with her but in a more: “Look, you don’t have to like this, but you still have to lesrn to navigate in this world”.
And Dagran himself seems to be quite aware of that, he is not an idealist like Anduin, nor he carries the ambition and the cunning of Wrathion, he is his own thing, he is not willing to drop what he likes, but he is also properly learning and engaging in his duty.
I’m sure He will be able to rule while also finding a way to do what he likes most, which seems to explore and study old dwarven stuff.

Except that it’s quite clear that Dragan would rather be left to his books and scrolls. But being the only surviving heir of the late king, he’s not being given a choice.
I kinda hope that if they go in on Dagran’s story fully, that his studious and intellectual nature has him actually poking and prodding at some aspects of Dwarven history/life that aren’t all happy sunshine, rather than just being Muradin MK 2 and the standin dialog NPC for archeology/titan stuff.

Where are you getting this from?
The short story.
The War of Three Hammers was such a hug fest.
