Just another black dragon. I don’t know - I think I hd this misconception for years that he was honestly special or anything like that - but no. He’s just another uncorrupted black dragon. A normal one - not extraordinary, not anything to write home about - he’s just another…dragony dude.
It really puts into perspective how much this guy hypes himself up. “The black prince” “the son of deathwing” and so on and so on - when any of the other black dragons, Ebyssian included, could claim the same. It feels like Wrathion’s original campaign to eradicate the remaining black dragons was merely to ensure that special place for himself - which is now super threatened by the existence of other black dragons.
Hm.

Wrathion isn’t just another Black Dragon. He’s The Black Dragon who is not like his father who was corrupted and crazed and might be the next king for the Black Dragonflight.
woah woah!
JK, I get it! He was supposed to be the final one, and now that’s sort of… not true!

Emphasis on might. Remember - that’s only because of his formerly unique status as the THE Uncorrupted Black Dragon. There are more now - and-

Much more qualified ones. Sabellian is a black dragon who’s seen more than his fair share of war and conflict - and is 100% better qualified to lead the flight.
At the moment, all Wrathion is, is an arrogant child imagining himself to be equal and about to play with cosmic forces.

Wrathion is still technically royalty, he’s the son of a former aspect, even if the human equivalent of his father is basically Vlad Tepes the Third, Vlad the Impaler.

Technically - this is true - but don’t all black dragons trace their lineage to deathwing? If not directly, by only one generation of separation?
I thought it was Sabellian who was direct descendent of DW?

Nope, he was never anything special. He just acted like he was. Part of the reason I despised him. I also hated the writers for continuing this false narrative that he’s Deathwing’s son, when he absolutely never was.

Seems fitting that a dragon would have an outsize, overblown ego. Especially when talking to mere mortals.

I think we’re finally getting some comeuppance for that in DF - hopefully. Wrathion has always been a weaver of lies and I never know where his intentions are pointed.

He’s not. Deathwing is not his father. Nyxondra is claimed to be a “sister” of Onyxia, but never said to actually be a relative within the lore anywhere else.

I prefer that, some of the worst story writing about dragons had Wrathion leading the charge. Cata was horrible for dragon lore, and DF seeks to fix that by returning into what made them interesting in Wrath, TBC, Vanilla and the older games. Returning to old plots like Grim Batol.

He did eat the heart of the thunder king. Supposedly that would have granted him the power of a keeper.(though he hasn’t show any lightning powers… blizz likely forgot.)

He is listed as a grandchild of Death Wing however.
Not all I don’t think, a good many do though, including most of the ones we’ve seen so far.
The false narrative is the point. Being a vainglorious child is like the cornerstone of Wrathion’s character.

That’s not even referenced in the lore with a citation. But technically, they’re ALL related to Deathwing in some fashion. So that’s kind of moot.
Fair point, how many of Death Wing’s directly related kids/grandkids have we killed so far? I can count at least ten I think.

Good. Give Sabellian the title.
