Wrathion build up end

So is it confirmed the 13 year story build up of Wrathion on trying to restore the black Dragonflight is over so some High mountain hermit can be aspect? Not even gonna mention Seballian past this cause he was never going to be aspect he was just placed in the story to make Wrathion look even more childish then usual.
Wrathion has had the easiest character assassination this expansion. Went from interesting puppet master who didn’t have all the right ideas who was definitely childish to him being just a fool. And it was all foreshadow with him getting hit by that first boulder at the start of dragonflight. No BFA and prior Wrathion would of gotten hit by that.

He was the direct instigator of two back-to-back disasters and the best face his lickspittles could put on this was “it helped us level up.” The magnitude of this guy’s goofs is so astronomical it’s a wonder Alex keeps his counsel at all. I guess the antler aspect at least owes him a solid after the potion thing.

Not to say DF didn’t exaggerate his immaturity a bit, but I’d hardly call it character assassination. His judgement and execution have always been poor and he put more effort into exterminating his flight than building it up.

The biggest issue I have with Wrathion’s story is his sudden and inexplicable interest in the Black Dragonflight’s ‘ancestral home’ or really every I’d assume whisper-driven decision he makes in the Zaralek intro.
He was raised by Assassins and leads an entire spy organization, so every single time where he goes ‘I’m a dragon so I’ll just go dragon the enemy to death’ instead of relying on his mortal allies and agents feels like a fundamental betrayal of his character.

Dude. Wrathion didn’t build anything. Without Sabellian he would be the last black dragon. He activley killed his own kin instead of trying to find a cure for the old god madness. He never deserved to be aspect. Stop stanning him just because you are horny.

Like I said, Sabellian is never going to be Aspect. The High mountain man is. Saballian didn’t cure any god madness. Saballian was just luckily on another planet until N’Zoth died.

Complete circumstance. Wrathion was the closes to curing it with the cape from BFA. Also any corrupted black dragon on Azeroth was a current threat. You don’t see anyone getting mad at the player character or any guard for killing a cultist because they were brainwash by the whispers of N’Zoth… Such a dumb argument.

No you just like him because he is hot and got your headcanon into the game. Like the usual twitter crowd. But that was never gonna happen. Ebyssian is a true centrist and didn’t do reckless crap that endangered the world twice. So of course he was the most fitting choice.

There was no character assassination.

Just a bunch of folks who don’t understand his character arc.

The only Black Dragon I felt bad that Wrathion killed was Fahrad. The rest were all corrupted and hostile. It’s not like Wrathion went around killing all his rivals to ensure he became Aspect.

Wrathion has single handedly caused more damage and danger to Azeroth than anything the Horde and Alliance could do. He’s in the top 5 of things that have harmed Azeroth.
Aspect duty he definitely doesn’t deserve.

And yet Alexstrasza sent Rheastrasza to the Badlands to try and find a way to cleanse the Black Dragonflight of its corruption. Which led to Wrathion being made in the first place.

And that was during Cata.

I mean, Cata also had the quest to go murder newborn black dragons and one of if not the last brood mother in the Twilight Highlands.
It was a pretty mixed bag of things.

tbf that was after Alexstrasza tried to reason with Deathwing for the final time. Killing has always been a last resort for the Red Dragonflight when it involves those they believe can be redeemed.

His entire shift in behaviour comes down to the fact that he now has competition for ‘Neltharion’s Legacy’. Before Sabellian showed up be was sure that he was going to be the Aspect of the Black Dragonflight. Then his brother showed up and challenged him and so Wrathion started trying to prove himself and/or one up his brother so that Sabellian would see that he should be the aspect.

The whispers definitely played a role in the Zaralek Caverns as well, but it was that core fact that he now had competition for the role of Aspect that drove him to act the way he did.

You know how many black dragons you kill in that questline lol? You never try to save any dragons in that quest line. You try to create a new uncorrupted egg.

Neltharion’s Legacy doesn’t even make sense to me, Wrathion has never cared about those kind of things; his only interest is the protection of Azeroth at any cost.
It also doesn’t help that he’s acting erratic over that legacy before Sabellian even shows up.

Yeah, that is partly my point. Any childishness and foolishness he had is 10x in this expansion. Any critical thinking gone. Gone from someone who was able orchestrate Alliance and the Horde warring eachother, making a brand new faction entirely with the Iron horde, coming up with a way to shield yourself from Nzoth’s corruption. To someone getting tricked that the eggs were destroyed. Stammering all the time. Some how 2-4 year old Wrathion talking with Anduin in mop is smarter then current Wrathion.

Wrathion’s interest in his father’s and flight’s legacy isn’t really as “sudden” as some folks seem to think, as in BfA it was indicated that he was already searching for the Dragon Isles. Trying to learn more about Neltharion’s legacy probably grew as an extension of his efforts to figure out how his flight had been corrupted, how he might reverse said corruption and how to prevent it in the future. Claiming the mantle of Aspect - in tandem with the other Aspects reclaiming theirs - likely seemed to him a good way to reestablish a powerful bulwark against future threats to Azeroth and a means to secure whatever additional knowledge and tools might exist in his flight’s holdings that could further safeguard himself against the fate of the rest of the black dragons.

“Old” (read: younger) Wrathion came across as more self-assured because he hadn’t failed yet and was a lone dragon dealing with mortals, so he was perpetually convinced that he was the smartest person in the room, and even then when things not going his way proved otherwise in MoP he threw a tantrum and stormed off.

In his interactions with Sabellian - and really, the rest of the dragons - he’s not dealing with mortals around whom he can put on airs and act like he’s the knowledgeable expert schooling a bunch of children. The other dragons aren’t impressed with a young whelp trying to project himself as being in charge, so he’s been having to adjust to an “audience” who’s not going to lend him special credence just because he’s a dragon.

Around mortals he gets to act like the adult in the room, but among other dragons he and they are very aware that he’s still a youngster, which affects how they act around him and how he responds to it.

Maybe the 13 year build up wasn’t to Wrathion becoming an Aspect but to him becoming a better person.

It’s not gone, it’s still there, it’s just that he’s in a position now that he’s never been in before.

Keep in mind that when Wrathion arrived on the Dragon Isles he was 100% sure he was going to be the Aspect of the Black Dragonflight. It was ‘his’ birthright, since Ebyssian was focused on the Highmountain Tauren and didn’t seem to have any interest in challenging him for leadership even though he was the oldest of the two.

Then Sabellian showed up, and you can see an almost immediate change in his behaviour after that point. Why? Because now he’s being challenged. Now he’s got to puff out his chest and make himself appear like the better dragon for the job, because not only does Sabellian have one over him as far as age is concerned, but he has far more draconic support (and even manages to take some support away from Wrathion, with his Blacksmith switching sides and joining Sabellian).

So from that moment on he’s constantly lashing out, at least verbally, towards Sabellian, trying to make himself appear like the better dragon to everyone around him and it’s backfiring, understandably so because Wrathion is not really good at getting support from other Dragons, who know him for the younger drake that he is. He’s great at getting mortals to do his bidding, after all, to a mortal a dragon, even a young one, is an extremely powerful being that should be respected. But for dragons? Not so much. It takes the events in Zaralek Caverns for Wrathion to see that the legacy he’s been fighting Sabellian over isn’t worth it, so he steps aside and after Sabellian does the same they both look to the one Dragon that has kept his head firmly on his shoulders and hasn’t been squabbling for power, which is Ebyssian.

Sabellian is the general of the drakonid army of the black flight.
Wrathion is the ambassador because what he is good at is convincing mortals around him to trust him and convince them of his plans.
And finally Ebyssian is the actual leader because gods forbid anything else but a centrist polititcally ever gains power. That is why Game of Thrones final season sucked so hard.
