Yeah I saw that too. I thought it was a mess with Jaina and Uther, present not present, I mean present dialogue. Now add the fact that Sylvanas was absolutely there and absolutely faced Arthas to the mix. I’m Confucius.
My only input for the subject from now on will be “everybody was there along with nobody” Ain’t nobody got time for that.
As for the OP, many of us have known this for a while. What’s new?
Was there something that was up for speculation that was confirmed? I do realize this is an age old topic and many speculations were had. I’m just having a hard time identifying particulars.
I think it’s very silly to imagine that you need to pick between the Horde and Alliance Icecrown experiences. It’s likely that both Sylvanas and Jaina were there, and had various conflicts with Arthas and the Scourge as they attempted to achieve their goals.
Yes in the Sylvanas short story she sees Garrosh starting the war with Gilneas before it happens. When she returns she finds Garrosh doing just that giving the Jailer more credibility.
Varian sent the 7th Legion to land at Southshore and take Lordaeron but reroutes them to Gilneas to fight the Forsaken. They never originally meant to go to Gilneas only the Night Elves request to aid Gilneas changes the plan. The Forsaken find proof of this during their side of Gilneas when they recover documents laying out their plans. With the Catacylsm destroying the Forsaken fleet the blight was the only way to stop the Alliance push.
Thats part of the reason Sylvanas is so harsh to Koltira in WPL is because in her vision the Alliance attacks from the EPL and Silverpine at the same time to cut off any escape.
Some people point to this as the starting point of the war because the Alliance fleet launched before the Catacylsm and all of Garrosh’s attacks on Alliance are after the Catacylsm. (I personally blame the Twilights Hammer)
Ei the reason the Alliance was planning on attacking the Horde is because they were sending their forces to Ashenvale borders. Which as certain recent events have shown is general considered a hostile act.
You make it sound like the invasion and destruction of Gilneas was a defensive measure rather than offensive one.
So when exactly was Southshore blighted to oblivion? This timeline is very confusing.
This is why having multiple perspectives without a cohesive narrative is bad. As a side note, Gilneas was apperently attacked before the Goblins were recruited so there is that too.
That what? Varian wouldnt allow Golbins in his city? We already know that is false. Hell, we even had some darkspear trolls barge in once.(and they are still squatting in the Harbor)
I’m pretty sure it was canonically the Alliance that did ICC. Which is an odd choice. Because that means Saurfang having to fight an undead Dranosh, by far one of the more effective emotional gut punches in game, didn’t happen.
Isn’t Varimathras’s role in all this still up in the air? Have they addressed that? Am I missing something?
I was under the impression that Varimathras and Putress conspired together. Varimathras was probably acting under the orders from the Legion and convinced Putress to do what he did specifically to throw the Alliance and Horde into disarray. Was he doing that on behalf of the Jailer or the Legion? Did the Jailer have his sights on Sylvanas before she jumped or was it only after she jumped? Does it actually matter? Do I even care?
Varimathras and Putress still conspired together, it just seems like Varimathras was acting more on jealously over betraying Zovaal interest. When he tries to kill Sylvanas during the coup he basically says. "You shouldn’t have been chosen and I will herald the master’s victory!’
Sylvanas was very confused by the statement but was more focused on getting out of the UC and getting to Thrall for reinforcements over confronting Varimathras about his words. And as for Varimathras himself, it’s not made really clear what his over all plan was. The best guesses we have is that the jealously went to his head and he was making it up as he went along or that he was seizing an opportunity to trigger the Third Invasion of the Legion to start early with the goal of it ending the same way it did in Legion with Argus killed and sent hurling into the Arbiter.
When Zovaal and Sylvanas speak in the novel, it’s made clear that he has been keeping on eye on her. And at the very least it mattered to Varimathras whose jealousy over it ended very badly for him based on his state in Antorus.
