Before BFA even launched a certain dev was quoted as saying the dev team doesn’t know why people avoid WPVP. This post isn’t about people not likely pvp. You either do or you don’t. It’s also not about the current state of pvp beyond the posts about lack of feedback…
But with 13? years of feed back…do you think they just ignore all 13 years?
I’ve read a lot of the posts that pertained to wpvp over the years and you have the trolls and the ragers but you had a lot of good feedback on why people avoid wpvp over the years.
They just know, as you should know, that there is 100% no way to balance WPvP. It is inherently unfair, and will always be unfair, and because it has the possibility of being battles including hundreds or up to a thousand or so players at a time, will never be able to be balanced.
You go in to WPvP with the express intent of ruining somebody else’s fun. It may not be on your mind, but that’s how it is. You are ganking a lower level more often than you’re not, running away from groups of higher levels chasing you, and/or attacking questing locations. So automatically, WPvP is about making the other faction edgy while you laugh at the fact that somebody in that zone can’t take off from a Flight Master at that location for the next 5 minutes.
What would you have them do to make WPvP balanced, or fun? Has there even ever actually been anything stated along those lines to try?
I didn’t ask about balancing wpvp but you are correct on that.
As to the other things you mentioned…well thought out post by others have time and again just been ignore for the bliz shoulder shrug. “shucks kids, pvp happens”
Some other dev said something on the line of “when looking at a complaint we first see if the player has a way to resolve the issue.”
Really it should have the caveat of…Do they have a reasonable way to resolve it.
I used to like wpvp, tried it in BFA but honestly…it reminded me of why I switched to a pve server after cata.
My gripe with WPvP is that one of their reasons included for the removal of Flying was that having Flying in the Open World readily available for everybody made WPvP blatantly unfair, as you could swoop in with zero warning, kill somebody minding their own business, and then seamlessly escape to the sky.
But you can do that:
On a ground mount.
On your own two legs.
As an Engineer.
With an Invisibility Potion.
As a Rogue.
And at least ten more examples of items or classes that can use a combination or a simple skill to get the unnoticeable “jump” on somebody in the Open World and initiate seemingly un-wanted WPvP, and summarily escape from their pursuers.
So it genuinely stung me, rubbed me the wrong way, and irked me beyond belief to hear the Developers themselves mention WPvP as a reason for Flying’s removal from the game-going-forward.

I don’t know about that. We WPvP all the time. By “we,” I mean my husband and me. We do this when too few people are on and we just want to cruise Drustvar for Alliance to kill. I know. This is posting on my alt, and I can only assume it’s because I’ve been leveling her lately, but when I get my way, I play Horde. My active friends are playing Alliance. But here’s the point:
We don’t gank lowbies in STV. If you camp people in STV, you either need a shrink or you do it because you suck at WPvP against people your own size. When we’re on the lookout for Slayer title for someone in our group, we typically don’t mess with anyone under 120 unless they follow us. We don’t set out to ruin anyone’s fun. We’re looking for opposing faction people who WANT to play with us. It’s not hard to find.
The people who kill quest givers and camp the corpses of people 50 levels underneath them? I don’t know. I don’t get the appeal. It’s stupid and it’s not a challenge and there’s no reward for it. I’ve never understood that.
I mean, there are numerous studies that show how eating healthy is good for your health, but now scientists are studying as to why people don’t eat enough brussels sprouts. Is Blizzard serious? Sure some people probably love brussels sprouts, and I’m sure to them it’s the best food ever, but as for me, yeah no thanks. I can’t tell you exactly why I personally never fell in love with that particular vegetable, it just never happened. NO amount of forcing me to eat it is going to make me like or love them either. Sorry Blizzard, but everyone likes their own thing in this game, and that’s ok. Scratching your head wondering why more players aren’t pet-battling or role-playing is a waste of your time.
You see this over and over again. They ask for “help” understanding why players play a certain way and then ignore the thread. It’s intended to defuse volatile discussion rather than give them information that they’d have had for years if they cared about their responsibility to their investors.
The same dev also asked for players to explain how and why they play alts. Hello?
well, i’m not really into wpvp but knowing alliance are going to get 30% bonus for it kinda makes me feel like i’m not going to care about when ganks happen…
Well, there are enough of those people on the horde side that the guy who only plays horde and is in charge of the game even sees it as a serious balance problem.
When has WPvP ever been PvP? It’s high levels ganking low levels, then two more high levels show up and kill them (no contest at all) and then everyone moves on. WPvP is as pointless as battlepets.
yes…but pet battle don’t stop you from participating in the rest of the game. Plus if they are going to pump time/resources in a system that people aren’t participating in (judging by their own statements) why not redirect that time and those resources elsewhere?

Really? I am reading people saying that over and over…that it’s a Horde issue. Let me just share that when I was leveling my two goblins over the last month or two, it was Alliance camping me and constantly ganking, but when I was leveling my dwarf here (I’m still leveling her right now), I’ve had only two very short gank experiences between 1 and 100. I was killed twice in STV by a blood elf duo, and I was killed twice by an orc in WoD content. The blood elf duo wasn’t even higher level; they just won because I suck at PvP on my shaman because I’ve never played one before.
So. I would be interested in data on this. It may FEEL like the Horde is worse than Alliance about that behavior. It may vary from server to server. I just never felt an imbalance. There are d-bags in both factions.
Edit:!!! It worked! I got it to post on my main this time. I’m sorry, that makes me happy. Ha ha. (same chick as Meriweather)
I liked being on a pvp realm for the feel of danger.
In practice though, 99% of “world pvp” is just ganking - attacking someone at a disadvantage. Either their hp is low, they are outnumbered, they are fighting mobs, etc. It’s not like wpvp was full of princess-bride style honorable sword duels.
