Today on Deviate Delight there was a world pvp event to attack Tarren Mill, but we found out that guards were rapidly spawning near vendor npcs similar to what happens in retail.
We wiped pretty quickly and had to call off the event. A lot of players were saying this is bugged and not accurate to how it worked in vanilla, so I decided to report this.
Here’s a screenshot of about 10+ guards all spawning near an npc: imgur .com/a/e0PgU3j

Agreed, they need to fix this. Really detrimental to world pvp fun considering you need a full raid to attack towns now…
If you had a large group of people you probably experienced overspawn, which has been happening everywhere.
Just an hour ago in barrens killing some Geomancers there were a few of us around and we couldn’t keep up with the spawns. Not even enough time to top off between fights they would spawn so fast.
Never did my 60 bristleback tusks quest so fast haha.
But, yeah, it could be related to overspawn. I’d wait until layering is removed and overspawn removed. Hope this doesn’t stay in the game.

Thank god more people are experiencing this. World PvP is very important for the flavour of classic, I hope this gets fixed and properly tuned…
…after all I have plans for the upcoming weeks
The geomancers and the guards are 2 different aspects with 2 different spawn rates
This isn’t a bug or a glitch this is the spawn rate on the geomancers are how enemies work, the more players around the faster the respawn.
When it comes to guards their respawn is done to prevent you clowns from doing exactly what you’re trying to do.
I’m so sick of the moronic reasoning retail players keep coming up with who think they should be able to do something and when they can’t start crying it’s a bug.
You think you can just waltz into a city in the opposing faction and only expect a small resistance…
@Curedbacon obviously have no idea what wpvp is or was back in the day so i’d keep your opinion to yourself.
you must have not played from 2004-2007. Guards didn’t randomly spawn in masses.

Dynamic spawn wasn’t introduced till TBC… this is definitely not Vanilla.
Non-combat NPCs calling for help (summoning guards) was a Vanilla feature, but I’m not certain whether or not NPCs calling help for each individual enemy player nearby (for instance, if you have 40 alliance battling near a horde food vendor, that food vendor will summon 40 guards) is vanilla-like behavior, but I recall something similar, but perhaps not on this grand of a scale.
You can easily test this principle by hitting a random level 50 NPC in a hostile town when alone; they should summon exactly 1 guard. Add more players, and the number should increase.
in Vanilla only 1 guard would spawn to you, not 1 for each NPC that is in range of you OR your target.
