Wowup no longer supports

Now that Wowup doesn’t have any addon for DBM or bigwigs, what should I do for these 2? I need a boss addon cause I am bad lol

Download them manually I guess. :nerd:

you can manually download them, or grab curseforge lite (theres one without the bloat that came out a couple weeks ago, hence why wowup got pooed on)

Curseforge has a non-Overwolf variant now. It’s not (according to them) the “recommended” option, but it does allow you to use CurseForge without the annoying bloatware.

Take off the tinfoil hat and use the cuseforge app or download manually.

There’s no tinfoil hat here.

Overwolf is not something you want on your computer. It’s complete bloatware and completely unnecessary.

However, OP, you can download a non-Overwolf version of Cureforge now and it works just fine.

So far.

https://download.curseforge.com/

Go to this page, find the “Windows” box, and in the dropdown menu, select “Standalone”. There are only two options. Pick the second one.

It runs for two minutes while I update addons and then it’s not there anymore. I haven’t had any issues with it since I downloaded it 6 months ago. :woman_shrugging:t4:

I don’t think it’s the Boogeyman that everyone claims it is.

But if the standalone one loads any faster, I’ll give that a try. I’ve got Revo Uninstaller to make sure Overwolf is completely wiped.

I launch Overwolf and update addons then close the app. No virus’ or installing unwanted apps. Just an unobtrusive ad stream on the side.

Well, they’ve lost my business.

Last time I checked, WowUp still had DBM via Wago. You can get BigWigs via the github import method. Takes a while to get every expansion module but it’s doable.

Well if you don’t think so then it can’t be, can it.

It’s unneeded software.

By itself, that it doesn’t benefit the user at all, it is bloatware.

Just because you can’t see it doing anything or even if it’s not doing anything NOW, their business model is pushing monetization of EVERYTHING.

I don’t want them on my PC.

You do you.

But your uninformed opinion isn’t worth much.

I forgot you can manually do addons haha, it’s been so long

Nothing I said was any sort of hard factual statement. “I don’t think” implies the opposite. That’s some poor reading comprehension.

I love how you completely cherry picked my post.

Guess you decided to ignore that, since it doesn’t fit into your condescending false narrative?

Why keep something I don’t need when there’s one without Overwolf? Shocking how people can have a thought and open mind towards things, but you’ll try to portray it in some incorrectly twisted fashion.

You’re right. Yours absolutely isn’t.

So is WoWup. So is pretty much any addon manager. You are more than capable of downloading and updating addons manually. I did it until like Legion.

The difference is that WoWUP does what you asked it to do and nothing more. Overwolf adds nothing to your addon management at all. It’s a (planned) advertising delivery vehicle and (as demonstrated by the fact that CurseForge’s app will run just fine without it) unnecessary. That’s the very definition of “bloatware.”

And there’s a standalone curseforge client for a reason.

WoWup still updates DBM. You just need to enable WAGO and then use the “3 vertical dot menu” to re-scan folders.

Bingo - DBM.

Let me know if you need more help!

That’s a relatively new development precisely because so many people were rejecting the Overwolf bloatware.

I manually update just on principle. I don’t like the idea of being forced to use a certain platform. It’s silly, but I’m just weird that way. :woman_shrugging:

If I’m completely honest, I’m a bit sus of this claim. After the drama surrounding various addon managers from WoW (Twitch, Curseforge, Overwolf, WoWup, etc.) I’d like a 200% guarantee that this thing will not have some kind of wacky adware being slowly injected into it over time. Because at this point I certainly wouldn’t put it past them.

I’m thinking at this point I either just downscale and use the elvui client to update and customize or just forgo add-ons all together.

Really there’s only 3 things I “need”

  1. Consolidated action bars
  2. battle pet breed info
  3. map coordinates
