WoW's story is unsalvageable (rant)

Sure and as long as you realize that’s just your opinion, and not fact, we are fine. Problem is far too many players and far too many CCs believe they are entitled not only to their opinion but everyone’s opinion on the Shadowlands storyline.

At what point do we say general opinion is an acceptable fact? We can substantiate that SL story was bad with tangible things like math such as percentages and values where more people say SL is bad.

You enjoying SL is a fact. Most people having played SL saying the story is trash is also a fact.

When, for the first time, we hear a representative sample of the player base, not one biased by the forums which tend to attract people who have something to complain about.

The majority of players never enter notes in the forums so how, exactly, are you counting their opinions?

I guess this forum has a kind of “PvP mechanic” in which it gets more informative as you use your “ignore ability” to get the right messages more readable.

Well counting my own thoughts on the matter, I do see a lot of ‘DF vs SL’ posts and the general consensus is that SL story was poorly received.

Lots of lore retcon, Sylvanas being Garrosh 2.0 when they said they weren’t going to do that, Jailer ending made absolutely no sense, Baine being the biggest meme of the expansion… those are a few of the many reasons people give for why SL story was awful.

Not to mention the lead up into SL was BfA’s story and it was as poorly received.

We can look at a lot of streamer views too which isn’t necessarily unadulterated but if their audience agrees with the streamer (some having poor reception of the story) that doesn’t mean it’s hive mind, it means a lot of people are coming to the same general consensus as them.

There’s a lot of metrics. Now, I say to you, where are the posts, streamers, articles, etc etc, that say the story was good?

SL alone has done more damage to the Warcraft story than all the terrible stories in all expansions combined. It’s actually kind of impressive, in a pathetic kind of way.

It’s interesting to me that the forums have players on each side of every single issue/topic/opinion/feature ever brought up, except, the Shadowlands Sylvanas/Jailer/Retcon disaster. It’s unanimous, I honestly can’t recall a single person liking or defending the SL story. Even players that liked playing SL hated the story portion. Why does Danuser still have a job? Dead serious question.

Massive amounts of players begged to differ. Aside from the gameplay and other obvious elements, its story is a part of what made it such a massive franchise.

It’s just crashed substantially over the years. A shadow of its former glory.

I think the word you’re looking for is “inspired”.

TBC had hilariously bad story.

WotLK had hilariously bad story.

I dont get this pretend world that acts like the story was ever good.

What? MoP was good because it made new lore instead of relying on old stuff. Basically nothing in there was from the RTS games.

This is why I find it impossible to have an actual discussion about lore on this forum. It’s all “lore so baaaad Danuser suuucks” but when it comes down to brass tacks you people know basically nothing about what you’re whining about lol

There are thousands of online posts, articles, videos, streams with detailed reasoning and specific explanations on the atrocity of the SL story arc. Look it up if you’re confused.

At some point it went from different stories with different heroes and villains to “neeeeeeeeed morrrrrrrrr boooooooom” like a Michael Bay movie.

I just hit the there are too many dragons in Dragonflight, It’s a good thing Danuser wasn’t writing for us back in the day, Wrath of Lich King, there would have been Lich Kings everywhere.

Yes, poorly received by the people who dominate the forums. When you have one group that dominates the forums and another that doesn’t, that shows a bias. It means you should expect errors if you try to generalize opinions of the total population based on what you see in the forums.

As for the streamers, they tend to follow the forums because they know they have guaranteed “clicks” from that group if they tell them what they want to hear. They don’t know any more than the rest of us know how the non forum people feel.

As an example of how unreliable forums are, notice that polling groups like Harris, Gallup, etc never use internet forums to make predictions. Instead they poll the population in general. The reason? Internet forums are notoriously unreliable indicators of the population in general on any point.

I had a pipe-dream hope that at the end of SL, that we had been a dream-thrall of N’zoth the whole time and SL had never happened.

I agree that wow’s over the top stories of us taken on the gods and such is just bad, bad, bad.

Gods cannot be killed, imo. You can thwart them, take out their minions, etc, but never kill them.

Wow needs a giant reset where the warlord across the mountains was the big baddie for the x-pac.

Don’t worry, I’m not. Nor do I need some youtuber to tell me my opinions.

YOU get a Lich King, YOU get a Lich King, YOU get a Lich King !!

should probably take your own advice, nobody needs you to tell them their opinion either.

I’m sure that comeback made sense in your head lol

I’m not telling anybody their opinions, just noting that most people here are too stupid and/or lazy to formulate their own.

The “danuser bad” meme is just that - a meme, a line that people repeat because they think it means something. As multiple people in this very thread have already pointed out, he didn’t even make the story they’re moaning about.

They may have been bad, hammy stories, but they were Warcraft stories that still fit within the larger lore and narrative. Shadowlands is fanfiction.
