WoW's replay loop is too short, we need a linear 5th Pillar

Delves, Dungeons, and Battlegrounds maps all get back to the start of the loop too fast for my liking. I’m not suggesting that changes, but I do think we should adjust questing and bolster it, making it a 5th pillar of the game.

  • Raids
  • Dungeons
  • PVP
  • Delves

Fun, but short and it becomes about repetition very quickly. It feels like jogging in a cul-de-sac. What I really want is, for each patch, a long linear questline that is:

  • Not connected to the expansion story campaign
  • Is not required in any way/shape/form
  • Has increasing difficulty

I think questing is a wildly undervalued aspect of the game. I went and did Loremaster between BFA and Shadowlands and I had a lot of fun. It really was an adventure. And I want to feel that high again.

So here’s a rough sketch of what I’m thinking about:

  1. A lot of quests - let’s say 500 - that takes you to every continent in the game, and has you solve puzzles, weird escort quests, take on gauntlets, and any other
  2. The overarching story of the quest should probably not be too serious for two reasons: to reinforce this is not required; so it’s not tied to the main story at all. frankly I think I’m just loving these goblin quests in March 2025, so that’s inspiring a lot of this sentiment.
  3. Don’t use new NPCs or anything like that, for example, if the quest is a who-dun-it, maybe it’s just a large gossip chain where you drink soup with the Tuskarr, learn Furbolg to get info from them, and fight in the Grim Guzzler over allegations. If it’s a epic journey to reassemble a wise old pandaren flute, maybe you get materials from all over, need a blacksmith to meld materials and only the Sethrakk of Voldun know how to forge materials like that or something.

Ok so if it’s not required and it doesn’t give you gear why do it? I would say you should get three things from it:

  1. An achievement
  2. A cosmetic of one item or another, probably not a set
  3. The ability to have understood a storyline well so that you’re in on the jokes/references made

My only hesitation with something like this is that WoW no longer has lulls in its content release schedule, which was the perfect time to do something like this, so people would have to make time for this.

But think of those weird quests that you did in Un’Goro, or in Scholozar…or Undermine. We should have more of those. The Day Deathwing Came, the Darkshire macabre stuff, the Johnny Awesome stuff.

Anyway, one Shaman’s two cents.

We literally just got Delves. I’m good, bub.

I don’t want Developers time to be crunched. They have families.

How is this any different than just doing current old quests/lore master?

  1. A lot of those quests are part of the main storyline for an expansion - i.e. they don’t put a premium on fun
  2. Once you do the Meta loremaster it’s done. You can’t do it again.
  3. For some reasons - like rep - those quests are kind of mandatory.

How would these put a premium “fun”?

There are only so many ways to do a quest.

Many lore master quest lines are not mandatory. It’s why so few people have the achievements.

Your opinion has been noted

K. Thought we were having a discussion. Guess not.

We can. But your questions dont read like theyre being asked in good faith. That first question for example.

A premium on fun is when quests, like the ones i mention in the post, are not serious, ridiculous, or absurd.

Questing literally breaks any form of immersion in wow. We took down many things that would have ended Azeroth, and yet the NPC’s want me doing their menial chores. That would be like calling Taylor swift and asking her to do your personal laundry xD

Could easily just rip off deep dungeons from FFXIV.

great BUB, do what u like…don’t have to make a dumb comment on other peoples opinions.

We need SOMETHING linear to make these campaigns not a redundant loop cycle. I pretty much see wow as a raid logging game now. Everything else has been done so much its boring.

I would prefer expansion to come out with linear raids and dungeons honestly. Make content harder and harder and give me a reason to progress other then…oh i gotta do that same dungeon/raid AGAIN for the 20th time to get 1% boost item.

No. Terrible idea

Nah, imagine a long Legendary item quest line. That would immerse me into the game, especially if we had to figure out where to go and not have quest just say “Go exactly here…kill this…get quest item” Like let us almost have to search for the item. within the world

So far your opinion has been pretty dumb

You don’t even do the content now.

I do the content, ive leveled, done dungeons, done M+, done the raids, done delves. Now i just repeat on harder level. seeing the same boss, hit a bit harder or shoot another mechanic out

People just need to start respecting peoples opinions on the game they love, or played for years.

No matter how many times, someone like this kid tells me im “dumb” or “nah” . To me nd a LARGE portion of players will think, Linear progression, breaking out of the M+ spam is better.

No you don’t.

You do know we can look at wcl and see that you’re lying right?

You don’t even play at the lower difficulties let alone the high ones.

No. When people have stupid ideas they need to be called out.

Yiu have a 19.9 overall parse in heroic and don’t have mugzee or tally killed so no aotc.

You haven’t done anything.

Citation that you represent the majority of the playerbase?

The biggest issue with this type of idea, and the reason it will probably never happen, is that it would be multiple times more expensive and intensive to develop than the other types of end game content.

Bro, so lonely he looking up peoples and their alt toons as digs. Pathetic. I play with a very calm casual guild with my wife, if you know what that is. And we clear content just fine up to heroic. And ur calling out my alt, ive raided like 1 week with lol. Grow up
