WoW's half-hearted addon replacements will not work for me

So this is may be an unpopular opinion, but if they’re doing away with addons then i hope they add something thats just as good- if not better, than what it’s replacing.

My example of this is Hekili, I use it on my alts because I don’t want to research how to play +30 different specs for an hour before actually playing the game. I tried using WoW’s built in rotation helper and it just doesn’t work for me, I want to see the abilities que up before I have to press them. With that being said, they should add a que like Hekili has and it should be customizable. They took the time to create this new thing just for it not to be used because its subpar to the original. Similar to the new UI and Elvui, elvui has so many more options and its way more customizable, why would i switch? Now I see theyre adding their own DPS meters/new nameplates/ability timelines, is this going to be another half-hearted/superficial job that we have to use because theyre going to get rid of addons?

After citing several examples of addons that still exist and see use after Blizzard ‘did it themselves’, why would you think it’d be any different here? Just because these things aren’t ready yet?

Meh, gives a base line option for people that dont specifically use an add on.

They aren’t.

Maybe worth waiting a bit and seeing what the end result looks like. The moment it gets released, that’ll be the time to start complaining, loudly.

Figure out what it is what you use regularly, and desperately need to see, watch what is coming, what is missing, and loudly speak as to why what they are coming up with isn’t good enough.

It’ll be a short window. Do what you can with it.

If you can’t play the game without addons… then that is a YOU problem, play within your means, if you wanna play 30-specs but don’t wanna learn em all, you either use OBR or don’t play 30-specs if you can’t handle it.

Just wait, dps will probably be able to hide their numbers on the Blizzard meter through an option, and I notice that there was no mention of tracking number of kicks or dispels.

The dps meter might be more for “your eyes only” if Blizzard wants to go out of their way to protect people’s feelings. I am guessing logs will always exist, though.

They couldn’t even get a map replacement right.

are we making stuff up?

…because i haven’t heard anything about this, and i feel like people would be making a whole lot of noise if it was a thing.

Must not have been around the last 6 months? They made an announcement when they released the first implementation of the One Button Rotation and Rotation Assist in the PTR that they were moving to remove the combat API hooks for addons in the long run.

The caveat is they claim to be developing internal replacements for most of them, like damage meters and such. But the end goal is to kill Weak Aura usage on fights in the long term.

Cosmetic addons won’t have issues, at least if we are lucky. For all we know, integrating the Blizz replacements will nuke the add-on’s entirely for a long while. Most of us are doomsday prepping for the inevitable dark age transition period. But it very much so is going to happen, they just haven’t expressed when.

correct!

glad i missed the drama.
…but it sounds like it would have been more interesting than “QQ pixels not hot enuff”
