Have you ever watched WoW’s credits all the way through?
Chances are, you probably haven’t. But if that’s the case, don’t be ashamed. I haven’t either.
You know why?
Because they are BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!
Just generic warcraft music playing as unrelated generic warcraft concept art appears behind the credits. It’s really low effort and a very small amount of people actually enjoy it.
Now why is it so low effort? Doesn’t Blizzard want people to watch it? Don’t the devs want people to see their names on the name thingie?
They should! They made the game! They should get the glory!
Boring credits like these should be a thing of the past. Credits should be enjoyable.
Let me give you some examples:
Doom 2016’s credits are absolutely packed with stuff. I won’t link them because… you know… gore. It’s Doom, after all. But you can search for it on youtube.
Each scene is fully rendered in 3D, with dynamic camera movement and every scene relates somehow to the credits on display. For instance, when they talk about concept artists you see some Demons in vats inside a lab, and when they show the credits for Multiplayer, you get a shot of two different multiplayer marines back to back. Lead Weapons Modeler? Show all the game’s weapons!
At the very end they recreate the cover of the original Doom game and it’s awesome!
This is definitely my favorite video game credits sequence ever.
I also REALLY love the Hyperdimension Neptunia game series’ tradition of creating retro-like game sprites of the game’s characters and using it in the end credits to make parodies of old school retro games. It really fits well in a game that turns real life game consoles into goddesses set in a world called Gamindustri lol
These two are my personal favorites. There are a lot more.
Finally, there are games that let you play the end credits!
My all time favorite for that is Devil May Cry 3. If you kill enough demons during the end credits you get a special cinematic at the end!
My point is: WoW is my favorite game and I wish the game’s credits were on par with the game itself.
