WoWhead started laying off well known and respected writers early this year, and Icy veins started scooping them and others up. Couple weeks ago someone who would know mentioned WoWhead’s weird PR lately but mentioned Perculia still being in charge. She is not any more, as she’s been laid off. I don’t know her, I have no loyalty to her really, but the site is absolutely becoming something else, something less savory without her and everyone else that got WoWhead where it is.
I cancelled my premium subscription, guess I’ll turn on adblock on that site, when I use it for its database, which is all it’s really good for as they continue to crank out ragebait and unvetted feature articles for “vibecoded” addons.
Not trying for a revolution here, I’m just mentioning it as an FYI. Y’all can look into it yourselves if you care to know more.
End of an era, honestly. Sucks that the site is still linked officially by the game’s troubleshooting avenues.

Yeah I use it with adblocker to look things up but that’s it. Everything else is clickbait and without an ad blocker it’s basically unusable. Try to open 3 unblocked tabs on the side at once and it straight up tanks my fps in game.
to be honest im still kinda weirded out about WoWhead publishing a player’s argument with a CSM. i mean, what exactly does that accomplish? besides drumming up more controversy and rage bait
I know y’all are having fun and making jokes about it… but unironically, that’s something that people were doing. Because back then, you basically just had Everquest and WoW was significantly more casual friendly than what Everquest ever was.
So… some folks who were hardcore MMO players and “elitists” (back before ‘gaming elitism’ would have even been a thing) actually thought WoW was DoA because it catered to casual players. After all, dying didn’t actively lose you experience and gear so… how could WoW possibly ever retain players when they didn’t do that?

IF true, that is really really ominous. I do not see anything verifying that though. I have a lot of respect for Perc and for quite a few of the guide writers. There was always a battle between folks like Perc and the “corporate” side but she and the writers fought to keep it as fan friendly as they could within the nonsense they had forced on them.
That would explain some of the inaccurate clickbait crap lately.
Very true. That is my main use for it, and I use add blockers.
