Wowhead website needs to stop with the overload of data/cookies

Please Blizzard, have WowHead stop and take over the website. It’s full of cookies, ads, datamining, and it’s causing my CPU to overload, fans revving up, and freeze every time. CPU usage spikes up to 90% and it’s ONLY when I use Wowhead. I have a 13th gen intel processor.

The only way to stop is i have to open task manager and force quit. This has been happening more and more, and it’s bad scripts, or corrupt files, datamining, ads, notification addons, etc. just STOP.

If i ever open wowhead website on privacy mode, i do not have that issue. Additionally, the website is not overlooked well, it’s full of viruses, links, etc. I got a virus one time by clicking on one of the wowhead links from the wowhead website and reformat my computer. I’ve cleared cookies and I still have this issue. Please someone needs to take-over and/or shut it down.

Wowhead has always been like this.

It’s not just the ads, it’s the datamining, and amount of data it leeches that’s causing the issue. I open on privacy mode without ads blocker and it’s fine.

Do that, then?

I don’t know if you seriously think Blizzard can do anything about a third-party website.

Nothing to do with Blizzard. You’re asing one company to interfere with another? Not going to happen. If it bothers you so much, if it’s causing so many issues, stop visiting said website?

Blizz isn’t gonna take over the site. Time to use proper protection.

Maybe, but Blizzard has no problems sending automated ticket responses that insult people’s intelligence direct people to Wowhead when they don’t feel like answering tickets. Perhaps they should stop doing that.

Blizzard is not going to take over a third party site nor are they going to tell them how to run their business. Sorry but this is only an issue you and WoWhead can resolve and I say “you” because I haven’t experienced anything like what you described.

I mean OP isn’t wrong that Wowhead is horribly designed and overloaded with ads.

It’s just easily solved with an adblocker. I like watching mine tick into the triple digits of ads blocked on that website when I leave a window open for a while.

I use uBlock Origin. But I also gave Wowhead $9 for the year. Because I forgot to cancel it. >.>

Noscript and Adblock PLus, allowing only the main website to load. You’ll never seen another ad in your life. Throw in Ublock Origin and you’re set for life anywhere online. You’re very welcome

It’s probably an underhanded way to coerce people into paying for their premium service. The one nice thing about Wowhead is that they give you their premium service for free if you have enough site rep, and it’s funny how much better the site runs when you have that service active.

Blizzard can’t do anything about it, go complain to Wowhead.

Orly? Guess I should figure out how to work on that.

Blizzard can stop plastering Wowhead links in automated ticket responses so that site gets less traffic.

Very true, but they shouldn’t actively send people there either

The adblockers have malware/spyware in them and got viruses because of it, and was got into all my passwords…now i can’t trust ad blockers anymore.

Wowhead is owned by Tencent so I would really doubt any of that is going to stop.

I’m assuming you would have to participate in the cesspool that wowhead calls a comment section, which sounds absolutely not worth it in any way lol

Click this, install it, never worry again.
