Is there a way to look at covenant gear or specific races so I can tell how goofy Mechagnomes look in say, venthyr gear or Necro gear?

Let’s save you time. Mechagnomes look goofy in any transmog.

Yes, when you are in the dressing room you can select any race and equip any set. You can also put on individual pieces.
