WoW2: Influenced by Classic or BfA?

Let’s say that ActiBlizz decided to create WoW2. Would you want WoW2 to be more “organic” like WoW Classic or have the same kind of “monsanto” conveniences that are found in BfA?

there will be no wow 2 blizz will run this game in to the ground like all their other ips.

I like character development to feel purposeful, not automatic; so I would lean more toward Classic than modern WoW.

Oh, there will most definitely be a WoW2 at some point.

It will be similar to classic. Bfa is an evolution of what happens in an mmo that has lasted this long. Wow 2.0 if it happens will start like classic and become bfa.

There won’t be wow2 because they will just keep making expansions for wow1

Financially lucrative games involve catering to the type of player that enjoys mobile, 20 minute pick up/play sessions that don’t require dealing with story, building up gear, or socializing.

Unfortunately, that situation doesn’t generally work in favor of MMORPGs.

If they got inspired to make WoW2 it’d be because they had a new idea for an MMO they wanted to play. It would be neither Classic nor BfA. That’s what they were trying to do with Titan.

WildStar tried that “modern vanilla” thing, and it failed spectacularly. Many of those devs also worked on vanilla WoW.

Classic’s appeal is much like the appeal for great games of the past like Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII. Do people still love to play them? Absolutely. Would they be sensations if they were released brand new today? Absolutely not. Even Square realized this and modernized the FFVII rerelease.

Blizzard has repeatedly shown it’s willing to blow up old content, retcon characters and story elements, and break the setting’s internal logic. There’s no reason for them to try to preserve anything going forward. They have Classic for that. If they think a change, any change, is in line with their vision and will make the game better, they should just do it. They don’t need a WoW2 to do that.

None of it feels right.

Maybe there’s a third option out there.

A WoW2 would never survive if it was based on BFA game design vs. classic.

WoW2 would not have any ‘sunk cost fallacy’ unless some progress carried over… so it wouldn’t survive.

Why? Why would they make a WoW 2 when they can just make it part of WoW?

Mechanically, I’d go with MoP as the base model. For overall plot and aesthetic, I’d lean more towards Vanilla (though I’d make sure to actually finish up loose quest chains and stuff).

My guess is Blizzard will make WoW Classic for mobile devices.

there won’t be a wow2. what i think will eventually happen though is a reboot and evolution. the day of the old style target>attack>rngroll games is ending. internet speeds are increasing on average allowing for more throughput on data which makes action MMO’s more and more playable. newer MMO’s are designed for controller combat a lot more often.

i think if the day ever comes that wow comes to an end that they’ll reboot it as an a massively multiplayer action RPG that’s built from the ground up to be cross platform between PC’s and consoles.

I would much rather a world of starcraft; or a completely new IP. That being said, the only way you’d ever see them create another MMO game is if wow fails spectacularly and they are left with no choice. (even then they could just ditch the genre outright)

They already stated they don’t want to be “the mmo company” - which is why they ditched titan and made OW from its guts.

I’ll go with a cross between Tetris and Hello Kitty…

…but with Orcs, of course…gotta have Orcs!

The next big thing isn’t coming from Blizzard unless they get some fresh blood.

There’s an obvious stagnation there and if they don’t recognize it now, I don’t know if they ever will until it’s far too late.

Ultimately, I don’t think any idea stands a chance growing in bad soil.

I’m sure there’s a barrens joke to be had here but I’m tired…

Por que no los dos?

Or rather, neither?

What I hope for any future Warcraft MMO is to leave behind the cosmic fantasy brought forth by the Burning Legion and Old Gods and go back to more grounded roots.

Set it between Warcraft and Warcraft II, while the Horde holds the kingdom of Stormwind and the Alliance holds Lordaeron. The Alliance is the classic Humans, High Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes while the Horde gets Orcs, Ogres, Forest Trolls and Goblins.

The villains are back to being dragons and elementals, not giant alien Titans. And the stories focus on adventures for the player characters: dungeon delving and monster slaying, while the war serves as the background. Strong focus on economy, community and slow burn personal character advancement rather than spectacle raid or die.
