WoW Variety Show Scavenger Hunt: Tasks and Clues List

Today on Twitch I caught the WoW Variety Show #1 and especially loved the Scavenger Hunt segment, where a team of 5 players raced other teams to complete tasks, objectives, and answer riddles in selected zones of Northrend. I wondered how well I’d do at the same challenge, so I compiled a list of the tasks per zone.

If you wanted to puzzle out some Northrend mysteries, here are the clues from the show! (The teams had 15 minutes to complete each zone, but also they had 5 people working at the same time, so I’d give yourself some leniency.)

Note that ‘taking a picture’ could mean a screenshot; when you need to use your selfie camera it will specify taking a selfie!

BOREAN TUNDRA

Task One:
Solve the riddle and discover the name of this special elite:
Start off your journey without a prologue,
This first task will have you head into the fog.
Past red flags and ruins you must venture south,
In order to speak this name out of your mouth.
GNARRA ADLKUNRKDAR

Task Two:
Find, touch, and take a selfie with some very green grass.
Hint: You’ll find this in a specific field, filled with flowers, clovers, and other wild plants!

Task Three:
Take a selfie at the following two locations:
In the center deck of ‘The Stormbreaker’
In front of the stairs near the Mightstone Quarry

Task Four:
Solve the riddle and take a picture at the solution:
I don’t have a body but I do have an eye,
For this task you’ll figure out-- who am I?

Task Five:
Take a selfie with a kite flying in the wind!

Bonus Task:
Locate Terky’s Cave, and document your discovery with a selfie!

SHOLAZAR BASIN

Task One:
Locate and take a selfie with a very active geyser, blasting water way up high!

Task Two:
Get your fishing pole ready! Catch the following fish and turn them in to your team’s admin:
3 Barrelhead Goby
2 Nettlefish
1 Pygmy Suckerfish
(Editor’s Note: as you likely won’t have a team admin, just pat yourself on the back I guess.)

Task Three:
Locate and take one picture that captures two waterfalls of differing heights.

Task Four:
Solve the riddle and take a picture at the solution:

On an isle up north buried deep in the sand,
Near an extinguished campfire is where you must land.
It is there that you’ll find this abandoned old hatch,
Your task is to locate the numbers that match:
5, 9, 16, 17, 24, 43

Task Five:
Track down and kill any of the following rare mobs for the zone:
Aotona
Loque’nahak
King Krush
(Editor’s Note: …Hunters really want these as pets, so maybe taking a screenshot would be better than murdering. You’re welcome, hunters, I’m lookin’ out for ya.)

ICECROWN

Task One:
Take a picture of the hallway entrance to Icecrown Citadel, without any players or NPCs in the image.

Task Two:
Solve the riddle to discover the name of this creature:
Travel up North to the grounds of the Argent,
To find a large creature that could beat a sergeant.
Tied up and snoring is this big blue beast,
Conquered through herbs in a monstrous feast.

Task Three:
Capture a photo of a lightning bolt mid-strike!

Task Four:
Solve the riddle and take a selfie at the solution:
Near a trickle of water is my giant wall,
Watch your step here, for you don’t want to fall.
In the land of the dead, the cursed, and the taken,
You must find something dammed, but still not forsaken.
(Editor’s Note: [sic])

Task Five:
Slay Archbishop Landgren inside The Crimson Citadel

BONUS TASK:
Deep in a cave lies a creation of flesh patched together. Unbind this creature from his shackles, and let him run free!

GRIZZLY HILLS

Task One:
Solve the riddle and provide your response to your team’s admin:
Past imperial eagles and strutting strong stags,
Beyond battling creatures draped only in rags.
Your task is to count the grand total of hives,
In a great fallen tree that seems dead but alive.

Task Two:
Take a selfie with the grizzliest hill!
Hint: It’ll look like a bear!

Task Three:
The following characters can be found camped out together in the West of the Zone. Based on the descriptions provided, put a name to the face of each:
Character One: A troll reached by following a trail of troll corpses, hard at work doing… something.
Character Two: One orc surrounded by weapons, skipping one of the steps in using a bow-and-arrow.
Character Three: “Zzzz…”
Character Four: Another normal, very average, run-of-the-mill troll. Definitely a troll. Nothing else.

Task Four:
Solve the riddle and take a picture at the solution:
In the East of the zone is a camp you’ll uncover,
Seek out a skunk, rabbit, fawn and its mother.
You’ll need to catch them without using a cage,
With bonus points earned if the fawn is enraged.

Task Five:
Along the streams flowing through the Grizzly Hills, you’ll find some Grizzlies on the hunt for Rainbow Trout. Snap a screenshot of a bear walking away with its dinner!

HOWLING FJORD

Task One:
Solve the riddle and take a picture at the solution:
My feathers are colored somewhat like a suit,
I’m a birdlike creature that doesn’t go ‘hoot.’
A spectacle found in an unexplored nature,
To find me, you might want to head to a glacier.

Task Two:
Solve the riddle and take a picture of the solution, with all details visible:
Locate one pink-and-white patterned umbrella on the edge of a dock,
Decorated with stars, baited hooks, and a frilly top!

Task Three:
Solve the riddle and take a picture at the solution:
As you enter the Fjord from the southern-most sea,
A great land mass parted is what there will be.
Hundreds of feet above a burning boat,
Take a pic of your team-- and feel free to gloat!
You’ll need all five members for your snap to count,
So gather the team on your favorite mount!

Task Four:
There are four notable bodies of water within this zone, what are their names?

Task Five:
What goes up must always come back down! Find and take a selfie with something that follows this rule.

Bonus Task:
Capture an image with as many clearly visible bridges as possible!
Note: Only one competitor can earn these bonus points. The image with the highest number of bridges (as determined by our administrators) will win this task!
(Editor’s Note: Another pat-yourself-on-the-back adaptation here, unless your pet or roommate wants to offer validation on bridge count. I’ll do it. That’s a lot of bridges, good job.)

That’s all the ones from the show, and I don’t have any of the answers, I’m simply the messenger, gotta ask the blues. Thanks again to the Blizz team for putting in a ton of effort for this zany show, it was a great time and I hope we see more Variety Show hijinks in the future.

Fellow players, go test your knowledge of Northrend and GOOD LUCK! Tell us how well you did and if any tripped you up! I’m off to try it myself.

I’m busy playing, thanks. I just got Shadowlands with the free offer and I got a character up to 57 before burning out for the night and needing a relaxing beverage.
