WoW update keeps failing (BLZBNTAGT00000840)

The launcher is telling me WoW needs to update, but the update keeps failing. I tried repairing it already, but that didn’t work.

I attempted to repair, and run as admin, still fails, currently uninstalling the app to see if that helps

I had this problem, i read somewhere to close the wow voice proxy, i went to task manager and closed it, update worked. have had to do that everytime.

Restarting the computer worked for me.

This appears to be the correct answer. WHY it’s the correct answer seems…inexplicable, but it works.

It’s a known issue we’re looking into. Part of the game client is getting stuck open for some reason. We can’t modify that program while it’s actively running, so it causes patch failures when it happens. If you want to help us figure it out, you can contribute the info we’re requesting here:

BLZBNTAGT00000840 - Information Gathering Request

Hey all, Over the last few months we’ve seen many cases of this error being caused by “wowvoiceproxy.exe” still running in the background while the game is closed. Since the file is in use, the patch service cannot update the game which results in the error code BLZBNTAGT00000840. We would like to see about getting this fixed, but we’re having a hard time reproducing it. Every time we test this in house, we don’t have the problem.
