WoW Trial Level Cap - Increase Ideas

To preface, this is just a suggestion and not a complaint at all:

The WoW trial only goes up to level 20, still. In my own opinion and from a friend who joined to check it out, a new player (whom the Trial is created for) who gets to level 20 will not experience much of anything that could potentially create a Subscribed player. Some new players, possibly all of them, play trials specifically to try out and see if its worth their money to pay for.

My suggestions (that are probably unreasonable):

1.) Keep the same restrictions as currently used (eg. Gold cap, No Emotes, No Mail, Whispers, Guilds, Auction house, ETC.)

2.) Level cap up to 50, to experience everything except the most recent content:

  • This will help potential new players to see all the OLD (Pre-SL) content and feel important within said content (whatever that means).
  • This in turn, will create some new players in game which helps everyone have a full gaming community and realm (potentially).
  • The game for brand new accounts already puts them automatically into the last expansion, BFA, without choice so they will see the most recent (except current) content/expansion features and zones.
  • Regardless if you think this devalues your subscription, the restrictions in place for the Trial accounts is an encouragement to subscribe.
  • The ones who would stay on trial and never subscribe, would add to the world community.

3.) This is my most ridiculous suggestion and purely from a ā€œget them subscribedā€ point of view and more of an idea than anything:

  • Offer the first, and only first, month after some predetermined timeframe or usage factor of the trial, be a 10% or 25% or even 50% discount (to get them in.
  • I realize this sounds unusual and would never happen.
  • It would be incentive for those who would NEVER just pay $15 for their first month, to potentially start subscribing thus bringing more for us to play the game with.
  • Probably would only be an option if the Trial account ONLY paid and chose for 1 month. Wouldnā€™t work if they wanted to do 3+ month discount subscription prices already in place.

4.) The discount for first month sub would only work for those truly new accounts that are not part of another Battlenet account. eg. Those looking to farm, etc, for a half price months.

  • There are probably better ideas for preventing the usage of discount months.
  • Either way, it would probably get more new players than those who want a new account that was never attached to their Battlenet account to try and scam some form of gold/avatar program.

5.) If you made it this far, remember that ALL trial account restriction would still be in place and theyā€™re fairly detrimental to a full account regardless of level cap.

I disagree. Remember, anyone can can turn a trial sub into a real sub (everything up to BFA, but not SL) for $15. Or in American, ā€œdirt cheapā€.

Most people pay $80/mo for internet service. And to run WoW, you need a $500 computer. So $15 is peanuts. Nothing. There is NO reason to increase from 20 to higher.

There are two major parts to the game: leveling and endgame. If you enjoy leveling, you willl know it by 20 (which is 45 in the old game). If you want to try endgame, cough up $15.

I wouldnā€™t mind it being free to play to bfa 50 after a one time purchase of the bfa battlechest

Then requiring a subscription to access new content, or battlepass if you want

Make it go to 50 i agree. That way i could run a few bgs for free(20 isnt even fun), and i dont play enough to justify 15

All 20ā€™s went to 10, but let you level back up to 20.

10 gold to 1000 gold.
Enough to buy Boaā€™s and the bank 100 gold tab.

The big one for me is thousands of more quests.

All this is free. Only leveling to 50 to use the group finder for Cromie Time on my 20ā€™s.

I donā€™t think you are getting the point of the OP. The OP is trying to intercorporate the next generation of gamers in high-school, or early college who are broke as **** and do not have the same leverage in money to spend on a vid game.

By making the said improvements to the trial, these new players will become long-term customers for a longer duration, instead of waiting longer amounts of time where they become financially viable to play WoW.

The Trial experience is the 1st experience these new players get of WoW, and first impressions are very important for them to come back and want to play. But making the Trial so useless and not a real representation of the real game is doing a dis-service to the game and to the long-term outcomes of itā€™s success.

20 is 1/3 of max level. That doesnā€™t seem so bad for a free trial.

Bad idea.

most people doing old content donā€™t want more people in the world community.

they already get the first month for free by buying the game.

actually those restrictions arenā€™t detrimental, your change would make people like me stop paying them

I donā€™t have Shadowlands. I do use the auction house but I am not using it enough to pay for my game time, so stopping using it would be no hardship.

All I am doing now is farming old content for pets and mounts. I could do the same on a trial/veteran account without paying.

lol, why the heck do you figure ā€˜gamersā€™ living at home donā€™t have disposable income.

The first time I played trial, I knew within ten minutes I wanted to keep playing. I went out the next day to a Game Stop in New Orleans, and bought the BC battle chest. Read the strategy book that came with it, while sitting outside at night and listening to jazz from over on Bourbon Street.

idk, maybe things have changedā€¦ but I wouldnā€™t think they had changed that much, in terms of being able to draw people in.

I do love the Trial status butā€¦

I would suggest removing the restrictions for /s, /e Emotes in general - communication can be a yay or nay depending on it. If, letā€™s say, Iā€™m level 20 I can write with people up to level 30 and they can read my emotes, hooray! Butā€¦ Only if I had a subscription on that Account before. Tested that with a 2nd Account which sub ran out and another that is entirely f2p, my lvl 30 could only read things from the veteran account, the f2p one was entirely silent.

Auction houseā€¦ Better not, but at least trading with other people would be nice, just like in Exileā€™s Reach(to those who donā€™t believe me on that, try that out, in that zone trading works between a trial and subbed account).

Guilds on the other hand would be great for newer players/veterans, alone it is boring. Otherwise you have to find a Discord Server with other like minded people or those who want to help.

I guess someone wants to bring up the Newbie-Channel and I can say from what I experienced so farā€¦ No. That channel is toxic. Donā€™t use it. You have better luck at more helpful/nicer people on Chat Roulette.

The level cap I believe is fine, with 20 you can experience almost everything now, except for a couple zones and raids(maybe they could scale down those so they have a purpose again except for transmog alone? Items that drop are at the moment for the level you could enter those worse than heirlooms, questing/dungeon gear is far better).

The choice of forcing new players into Bfa is dumb, I agree on that. At least they can switch to anywhere else after the intro(Note: Zones donā€™t scale due to no having access to Chromie Time).

Not that important(or even relevant) if 1) and 2) gets changed.

4)Not a good idea thanks to the ongoing botting problem. Those kind of people would abuse the system, make more money out of it than it would be beneficial towards an honest new player.

  1. Without changing at least a couple of restrictions in order to create a sense of community and be more like a single player game, it would still remain as a ungodly grindfest. Not kidding, with the current things equipping your level 20 in order to compete with sub account is worse than the grind in Black Desert Online.

Hereā€™s a guide for true f2p accounts, just to read through, to understand what steps you have to accomplish in order to be viable to an account with sub/veteran:

Forgot to add.
Logged in one of my 20ā€™s this morning that I had not turned off the experience gain.
Bam itā€™s 30, crap well one to delete.
This account has only had a sub for 10 days, ever, 20 days to go.
Made it back 2016ā€¦

Oof that is harsh. I hope you didnā€™t have any gfd items on him.

You could try to ask a GM about that problem to reset your character level. Iā€™ve read in the XPoff forums that some people got their level reset due to this grave error.

Thanks, but he is a DK and I can make another one.
Just wasting time with the game.

People are so close minded in here itā€™s unbelievable. This game needs new players badly and this is one of the first steps.

Would be nice to select what level you want.
I would like to be 34 today, 14 the next day.

Iā€™m all up for opening more possibilities for new players to communicate with others. But just raising the cap but let everything else beā€¦ Thatā€™s not a good way of encouraging people to play the game.

How? My friend got to level 20 and he didnā€™t like his experience, felt like his class was really limited and he didnā€™t want to pay more. Same for me. Got to level 20 and quit back in the day. My friend had to convince me big time otherwise I would have never touched WoW again. This is one of the things ff14 does right. Free till level 60 is incredible. Iā€™d love to see the same thing in WoW, until level 50. One of the main reasons why Iā€™m gonna sub to ff14 after my trial.

It wonā€™t bring paying new players in. All it will do it lose them $$$$ if they did what OP suggested.

I completely disagree. I said why above too.
