A co-workers kid who plays buys gold regularly from the gold selling websites, has been for quite a few years and said all his friends do also, they haven’t caught any of them yet LOL.
Right, so instead of making reasonable gold sinks, lets capitalize on it with the wow token. And keep the gold in the economy.
Token was introduced in WoD. The mission table was a joke.
Its a simple analogy, drugs= wow token, game = society. Blizz = Government. Government makes more money but society crumbles. Apply that to the wow versions.
Just dont buy gold from them, if u do then bye bye. Or dont go to fishy websites without an authenticator.
No for one simple reason. They are OPTIONAL, you don’t need them. They are either cosmetic or they offer some new to have feature then a luxury item. These type of things tend to cost more but they have no to almost no impact on the game.
I really think you are over estimating the impact tokens have upon the game. I bet the vast majority of money floating around out there is the fact we have had several expansions were making a couple of million was possible while doing next nothing.
Just cuz they are optional doesn’t mean people wont get them. And Blizzard knows this. Is the Iphone a need in life? Yet people, some who cant even afford them, claw at each other to get them.
Simple business. Lets make super luxurious mounts but at insane gold prices so that people will want them, to them its a “need” and will need to buy tokens to afford them.
Oh dont buy gold from blizz. Thats not how that works. And the game is better with the token.
I for one would have quit long ago if the token wasn’t a system.
If I am playing so little that i cant use gold to buy wow time, then I will quit. The token is the main thing that has kept me playing.
Many do get caught though. Plus there is always the risk blizzard may one day up there security methods and catch people doing this one day like they did with this one botting program. There was a botting program that for a time was undetectable by blizzard then one blizzard updated their security and were able to figure out everyone who had been using it and people were hit with sweeping bans as well as character and gold deletion.
The token didn’t exist in WoW’s peak.
Nether did fortnite
News, flash. Even if Blizzard stopped selling tokens, those same people would just buy gold from a third part reseller. These type of people either have a large enough disposable income that it really doesn’t matter or they lack the self control to stop themselves. The removal of tokens would just force them to use a rather seedy market to reach their ends.
You want to stop the surplus of gold flooding the game, great. Start with the black market and when you have removed that then we can worry about the token.
Unfortunately its never going away at this point.
Best we can hope for is that they stop designing content to encourage people to buy tokens.
WoW tokens need to go… back down to an affordable price
I really miss the 20-30k WoW tokens that we had during WoD, those were the days
What content requires tokens? I got AOTC without tokens and if I had the motivation to do +15 keys I don’t need a token either.
The token is fine, removing it wouldn’t stop the rampant boosting problem. A big reason behind that is more to do with the player base. If the service wasn’t needed, it wouldn’t exist. People seek out boosts and so it does. No one has to like it, I most certainly don’t, but removing the token would not in any way stop that from happening.
WoW’s prime was during a time where various factors came into play to make it popular. Those unique set of circumstances cannot be assigned to only one reason; those circumstances will never happen again. Making a single change without looking at the environment in its entirety won’t do anything.
Why would blizzard eliminate a source of profit for themselves?
I get that, but blizzard used a fix which ultimately ended up doing more harm then good. People are essentially “forced” to buy gold more than ever before to the point where the game has just become world of boosting and expensive mounts since now its so easily accessible and legal.
Never said it was required. I said encouraged. And yes, when you have things like the current rating system in PvP it encourages purchasing boosts
I don’t… there is a small subset of the population that has max gold (9M) on several accounts. Ion said in an interview when talking about the price-point of the Brutosaur that “the price is high because we’re trying to incentivize those players that have a LOT of gold to sink some of it out of the economy. Some players are very good at making gold.” The spider and the Bruto are gold-sinks for the very wealthy–they were not meant for everyday players anymore than an everyday consumer is going to buy a Lamborghini sports car for $200K when a Toyota Corolla for $20K is what they can actually afford.
Also, inflation is a real-world thing and unless Blizzard had implemented tighter controls on “the very wealthy” it’s going to be a thing in WoW. The token didn’t cause inflation, 15 years of wealth accumulation causes inflation.
Just be thankful the US region token only costs 150K–they are paying 235K in the EU this week.
Edit: Also, do you think that Activision is going to let Blizzard cut a “new” revenue source? They make $20 revenue off each token sale and that cash was going to 3rd party illegal gold-sellers before. Why would ActiBlizz give that back to the illegal sellers?
Boosting is like getting lessons for tennis pro. For some people it improves their game for some people it doesn’t.
In PvP it’s more like hiring ringers, and that’s very likely an integrity of the game issue.
Inflation is always a thing even before the token.
Learn economics.
And boosting was always a thing.
Learn the history of this game and it’s topic before blindly rambling on.
The token has indirectly allowed for more players to even bother playing this game. Without it I would imagine there would be less players rather putting that 15 USD or 23CDN towards something else.
I’m a casual, I don’t have time and don’t want to earn millions of golds by doing Mythic raids or picking flowers. How can I buy an Onyx Panther?
Although I’m not buying tokens now cos I don’t want to give extra money to Blizz.
