The wow token was meant to fix the gold buying issue by “legalizing” gold buying. Instead of buying gold from third parties that most likely got their gold from hacked accounts they instead would be buying it directly from Blizz.
But legalizing just created another problem and that’s rampant boosting and gold sink system like SL’s legendaries that are a step into the pay to win model.
I mean compare gold prices with mounts from vanilla - WoD to now. Is it really a coincidence that the gold cap was also increased from 1 mil to 9 mil? Then blizzard started amp’ing up mount gold prices with that spider then the Brutosaur. Both added AFTER the wow token was introduced. Now we got systems integral for progression in all forms of end game that costs thousands of gold to make and buy.
Its like legalizing hardcore drugs. Sure you wont go to jail anymore but having druggies doping it up whenever would throw our society in the gutter.
The removal of tokens won’t even slow down boosting for second. It will just move to being done thru discord or web sites for RL cash instead. Hell you can already find dozens of such services by doing a quick google search. Until you deal with that issue, nothing will fix it.
From what I understand, the only reason there is a wow token is to counter illegal gold selling. Tokens make it so that tokens are the place to go for the best value of gold making it difficult for people outside the game to sell gold effectively enough to make a profit. It is a necessary evil basically.
Bu the issue is the rampant gold circulating the economy and how easy and legal it is to get. You wont have as many customers if they cant get their hands on 150k+ gold for 20 bucks.
Well now Blizzard has just nerfed gold making so hard that it’s impossible to make gold without either playing the AH or buying tokens so that’s not going to happen any time soon. 34s vendor trash from SL mobs is cool…
Removing the WoW Token won’t do anything to resolve the boosting. In fact, the only thing it will do is reduce the WoW player base even more than it already has been reduced.
It isn’t the best value for the money though. If you look at the gold selling sites they all sell more for less compared to the token. The token hasn’t put a dent in gold sellers or players buying.
Not sure what you are trying to get at really. I am only pointing out that these problems existed long before tokens were ever a thing. So the removal of them won’t really change anything. People will still buy carries (hell we use to sell them in vanilla for crying out loud) and people will still buy gold.
And the price of mounts are not tied to tokens, that is Blizzard trying to bleed 15 years of gold our of the player coffers. Hell anyone who played ran their mission tables thru WoD and Legion probably has 5+ million easy just from that. Serious farmers have 10 time that…
But there is an advantage it has that gold selling doesn’t. There is no risk getting banned by buying tokens. I’m sure plenty of people have just decided to get tokens instead of buy gold because most people don’t want to loose an account they put years into getting to its present point.
Not saying boosts are bad in general but having most of progression available to casuals in the form of boosts is bad for the game overall.
And you really dont think insane mount prices arent tied to the token? The spider mount and the AH mount both came AFTER the token. In fact most mount vendors are ridiculously high compared to past expansion vendors, all after the token again. You dont see the connection here?
Except it didn’t, WoW token is player to player exchange. The gold must have already existed in the system for the token to be exchanged.
Blame the WoD Mission table? This is completely arbitrary?
No it’s not, I don’t even want to get started on how wrong this is. In so many ways alone because this statement alone is a major problem because it ignores all the other factors.
Many try to use money laundering techniques to get away with it. Its why some do this. Often they think they won’t be caught, but it just doesn’t necessarily happen immediately.
That is hardly a real deterrent, it if actually worked there wouldn’t be so many act gold resellers out there as their custom base would have dried up years ago.
