Looking back at my purchase history starting from September 29, 2015 was my first WoW token used for game time after my last 6-month sub expired. Ever since then I have been paying for WoW subscription time with the Gold token. The game has been essentially free to play for almost 9 years, that is crazy and I get the reason for the change. Freeloaders like me who know how to generate gold and abuse the Gold Token system needs to pay at least once in order to continue doing what I been doing.
Other than purchasing Legion base upgrade, I haven’t spent any of my money on Blizzard ever since they changed the WoW token to be applied to Blizzard Balance. I been using the Gold Token to purchase every WoW expansion, upgrades, services, and other Blizz titles like Starcraft 2.
Thanks to you, all the people who paid their $20 so I could play and pay for free in the last 9 years of WoW and other Blizzard games without spending my own cash, like ever. My game time ends sometime in the next year, I probably won’t renew until a month before the start of the next expansion when the level catch up events start.

I feel like if I generated enough gold for a free sub I wouldn’t actually enjoy the hours I was putting in, which would defeat the purpose. I’d rather work for 1.65 hours at an actual job and then buy a token so I can keep doing what I enjoy.
I mean if you’re grinding your butt off just to not pay 15 bucks a month then you have more problems than I do. And if you say the gold is effortless, well frankly I don’t believe you.

No it wasn’t, lol it never was, it was one of the worst things blizzard ever could have put into the game, it single handedly absolutely decimated the wow gold economy to the point that the market still is not fixed

If you know you’re going to renew anyway, there’s no point in not just buying a month and going right back to paying with gold after.

I’m an altoholic playing multiple characters regularly. I would have gotten most of my gold all the same either way. While I won’t say it was effortless, I didn’t go out of my way to work the system or do Auction House trading. I like repetitive action play, Blizzard setup a system where I can play 3-5 characters a day doing the same activity on all of them in a 3 day cycle.
It was all from just daily activity like Mission Boards and Tanaan Jungle dailies in WoD with 10 characters. Mission Board, Emissary quests, world quests, invasions, and paragon chests in Legion with 11 characters. Same thing in BFA that jumped to a whopping 24 characters, 12 on both factions. Shadowlands I was up to 30+ characters by the end of it.

Nah, I hate Dragonflight, only reason I’m playing it is because my game time is free. I’m here for the raid, either until my guild kills Heroic Fyrakk or my game time expires, which ever happens first.

What if it expires on the pull you’re going to down heroic fyrakk and if you quickly resub you’ll get aotc but miss it if you don’t?

Oh well, too bad! I didn’t get sylvanas cuz I wasn’t feeling that raid and we had a fall off in attendance on Heroic Anduin so we couldn’t get to heroic Jailer unfortunately so I got this double gap on my AOTC already anyway.

For me, it’s a nice goal to work towards. I don’t have a problem working for the cash, it just keeps me engaged to grind out the gold. Maybe once Warbands come along and I can actually join a guild (I have all my alts in a “me only” guild so I can share mats and stuff) that will change.
