WoW token gold price dropping in DF

During the later part of Shadowlands, WoW tokens were selling in the 220,000-230,000 gold range.

Around the time of DF launch, IIRC, they were about 190,000.

This weekend they have dropped down to 136,000 now, almost 100,000 gold less than they were in Shadowlands.

I understand basic economics i.e. supply+demand, but is there a bigger reason why the value of WoW tokens has plummeted so dramatically?

Fine by me since I have to pay for my sub with gold at the moment.

More people buying it with real money and less buying it with gold. I think?

Prices typically spike around an expansion launch and then drop soon after. It’s been a common occurrence. They will fluctuate a bit and then level out. Probably around 120-130k.

More spikes around larger patches will occur. And the process repeats

because nobody’s playing DF?

This xpac feels like its harder to make gold for a lot of people with the new crafting system so more and more people are opting to buy tokens now so it makes sense.

People were buying tokens even when they started at 20k or 30k can’t remember which

I’ll still sell one even at 100k

The cheaper they get, the better it is for me

Yep, for those of us that made some gold this expansion it’s a great way to get race changes etc for free.

I… didn’t think of that.

I would say this is a large part of it, aging player base with less time to sink into crafting etc. It doesn’t help that specialization mistakes are permanent and require even more farming and time to try to correct.

In early 2021, the wow token for US region was down around 110k gold. This isn’t some new trend only seen in DF.

Less players and many bought the 6/12 month subs so they don’t need it.

Speaking of tokens. Why is China price so crazy? It’s like 500k for one I think.

I thought the Chinese WoW servers were going down.

Just call it like it is, the population is tanking hard and the demand just isn’t there anymore.
I logged in about an hour ago and on my “high pop” server, I was, quite literally, the only one in Valdrakken.

Then I flew around on my Drac alt to level a bit through mining/herbing and across 2 zones, I only ran into 3 or 4 other people, who were also gathering.

No questers, no call outs in zone chat, nothing but crickets.

Full server my butt.

PCgamer already confirmed DF sold over 4.8 million copies, so the lowered token price is clearly more players buying tokens. Towards the end of SL, when everyone tapped out while waiting for DF to release, tokens spiked to nearly 270,000 since no one was buying them in the real world but there was a high demand in-game since players could buy DF this way.

The way I see it DF has been a great success. If we see it drop below 100k, that just further confirms DF as the GOAT.

Oh yea is that still happening?

Well, I didn’t see any updates that contradicted it. I kinda feel bad for the Chinese players as WoW is actually still really popular over there. It’s just getting moved out because of Chinese laws (that severely limit play time) and due to that the company watching over WoW in China isn’t making as much money.

Makes me glad I don’t live there.
