WoW Survival Mode

Hey all!
Just trying to start an ideas trend, cos why not?

So I was discussing what a survival game should be or not and I used WoW as an example. Here’s what I proposed:

  • Hunger and thirst bars.
  • Fatigue bar.
  • Limited ammount of spells per day (short rest / long rest)
  • Less mobs in the world but they are all elite.
  • Some places have quests, but occasionally elite mobs take over the place and you need to take it back to unlock quests.
  • Dungeons and eventually raids would have to be focused more on tactics than on actual damage spamming.

What are your thoughts and please present your own ideas for more game modes!

This sounds like the type of game I actively avoid.

Sounds like baldurs gate the MMO. Is there already something like that?

So, original Everquest

There are probably games already like that, but they don’t appeal to the majority of people so it doesn’t get a lot of mouth to ear.

I was okay with hunger bars for hunter pets. Not sure I’d want my own.

So I get to walk up a path and then sit and do nothing?

You lost me here. lol

Don’t these survival mode things always somehow make your characters in worst shape than the actual players?

I’m no athlete but I can at least run for more than 10 seconds before needing to sit down for a minute

Yeah the fatigue bar might not be the best idea, you’re right.

I despise survival games

It would be more in a sense of “choose your battles” instead of the unending spam of abilities until something dies. Very much like D&D.
Ofc the days should be shorter than RL days.

Sounds like you’re just timegating the entire game

Aye, it’s not the kind of game that appeals to everyone!

In what sense? Genuinely curious about your take.

Every piece of major content in the game requires spells. Leveling, questing (dailies for gear, rep, currencies, etc), raiding, M+, PvP all require you to use your spells and abilities to complete in a reasonable manner. If you put a limit on how many spells per day can be cast, you’re just preventing people from playing the game and progressing at the pace they want. You’re setting a limit on how much content they can reasonably do in a day.

I don’t think that making WoW’s gameplay more tedious and complicated just to walk around in the world would go over well for a lot of folks.

I would relish the opportunity to see how WoW players handle a survival game. I’d buy myself a 20 pack of beers, frozen pizzas, ice cream, nuts (maybe more than 20), and sweet tea and watch the Twitch hilarity.

I don’t think he means to change WoW to fit that kind of gameplay. He wants a mmo that has that type of gameplay, using WoW to explain it.

Ah, well, there are a number of games like that out there now. Conan Exiles is the first one that comes to mind for me.
