The only expansion that has ever been praised for it’s story is Wotlk. (and even that I think is pretty overrated.)
In CATA people were mad that there was “another big baddie from nowhere.”
In MoP people complained about Kung fu Panda’s.
In WoD people complained about the time travel.
In Legion they dug up Illidian and turned him back into the annoying, whiny, warcraft 3 Illidian.
In BFA people complained about N’zoth and the Jaina questline.
In SL people complained about Sylvanas.
In DF people complained about the goofy dragons and the story being nonsensical.
And now in TWW people are still complaining that the story is bad.
Vanilla-TBC had no main-story plot. And people never complained about it.
MAIN STORY QUESTS DO NOT WORK IN MMO’S Because it forces questing to be linear…and linear questing is more boring than non-linear questing.
“But what about FF14? People love it’s story?”
For every 1 person who says they like the story in ff14 there are 2 or 3 people who quit the game because the main story quest is an absolute slog.
Maybe blizzard can keep a story around. But they would have to reimagine how it fits into the game. Because how they’ve been doing it since CATA doesn’t work IMO.
Edit: Nice try false flaggers. Better luck next time.
needs to become an era after to titan exp. just keep it running with every expac, add some seasons or whatever but work on wow 2 i think they’re honestly pulling wow along way past it’s prime.
The story has been entirely an afterthought to me since somewhere around the mid-way mark of BfA. There is nothing they can really do that would garner my interest in whatever it is they are trying to convey through these atrocious characters and story beats.
No idea what compels people to read quest text or watch cut scenes anymore. Just give me some more delves, dungeons, and raids plz.
the game is declining in all fonts lmao. it’ll still have the same people then wow 2 pops. just play both. it’s an old game that’s obviously stretched to it’s limits. players here will live on wow forever so it’ll be ok
No, years of no content isn’t going to keep people. The amount of content we get currently still sees gradual dropoff each season, you’d be out of your mind to think years of nothing would go over better.
Having a theme every expansion is okay. Giving backstory for it is okay even if it’s all made up. Dont focus much on the story but more on the gameplay… for Devs and for players. Players should not play WoW for the story… but for its games. That’s where the fun is.
I could play Pacman for long hours but i dont need to focus much on its backstory even if there’s one.
There’s always bad guys. We kill them. Get its loots. Repeat. What else of the story would we need?
yea it did lol, there just wasn’t cinematics, so it felt like there wasn’t. Everything was built in, either through quest text or from boss dialogue (like the Brutallus/Madrigosa scene in Sunwell Plateau). I don’t mind going back to that by the way. These in-game cinematics like the one we just saw with Faerin are garbage.
The more I read, the more I scoffed, until I got to this point… and I can’t help but agree. It is better when there’s a small overarching story with good, local quests and lore for areas. So yeah, this has merit.
Do you just… say things you think are clever until something sticks? Because this ain’t it, chief.
