Current WoW sub = WoW unlimited
WoW “lite” = 30 hours a month (an hour a day, a little less on months with 31 days but ultimately this is for people who likely doesn’t play every single day and maybe just spends a few hours on weekends or something)
WoW “ultralite” = 10 hours a month, the people that just login on a rare occasion to see if there’s anything new/special events etc but doesn’t really play/have time to play
A lot of people just unsub because cost isn’t worth it if they have a very limited schedule/limited time. I look at companies like Netflix trying to get subs down with ads and stuff. WoW needs to do something to offer cheaper more affordable options to the more casual players.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea but I don’t enjoy limited time models, personally. But the price has been 15 a month since 2004 and it should probably be double by now thanks to inflation. If they make any changes, they might do something like
WoW premium (current) - 30/month
WoW lite (30 hours) - 20/month
WoW ultra lite (10 hours) - 10/month
I don’t love the sound of that. I think the current price is fair.
If they start losing income on their monthly tithes, players will just have to make it up with expansion costs. Players complain about $60 now? Just wait til the base edition costs $90 because monthly subs are only bringing in a fraction of what they’ve been bringing in for the last 18 years.
This argument comes down to how many services are you paying for in a month, aside from WoW?
WoW costs 50 cents a day, if you pay by the month, add another $2.50 a month to cover your $60 expansion cost. Where else can you get the type of entertainment at that cost with no limits on usage? Even if you only play 10 hours a month that is still a hell of a deal.
As others have said the sub fee has not increased in 18 years, whereas services like Netflix have cut parts of their service, increased prices or done other things to benefit their bottom line and discourage customers.
All stupid ideas on this thread to begin with, since this kind of thinking led to the watering down of this game ever since Activision took over back in WLK/CAT. I mean, it’s obvious that this game is struggling uphill trying to overcome various bad publicity these past few years, but to suggest something like this, which would cheapen the designs of the game further to capitalize on the per/hour player would not help it survive.
What OP is describing is similar to the old subscription plans CCP players had to rely on, because the state wouldn’t allow them to play for hours on end like the West does, so they limit their play time using hourly subscriptions to better monopolize their time better… that’s why during the time between WLK and CAT, Kotic thought LFR was the best thing ever, to cheapen the raiding experience for the whole world, just to save on developing costs two seperate games, and make all the casu-bads and CCP players “see the content”, and better capitalize on their limited state allotment of time and money.
Now that China has shut out Activision, suggestions like these are kind of silly to more freedom loving citizens. Never had a problem paying the sub for the 18 years I’ve been playing this game. However, to be fair, since everything is about WoW tokens and microtransactions for players who can’t win in their own game… why not just make WoW free2play anyways?
Sub price is fine. I honestly don’t see how $15/month isn’t already cheap. However, I have the 12-month sub, so it already is cheaper for me.
I have limited time to play. I often play less than 7 hours per week. I’m only paying $12.99 a month as it is. That’s like $0.43 per day. Seriously, how much cheaper do you want it to be?
We’re in the middle of a recession, and you are asking blizz to lower their prices? That’s rich. Blizz prices have been fair for years. You people keep whining, and they will increase their prices.
Replace WoW’s business model with Albion Online’s.
F2P with full perpetual access to all content
Premium time gives you access to a monthly reward track for each end game pillar, reduced auction house fees, increased XP, increased currency drops, increased item drop rate
You can freely exchange drop currency and cash currency with minimal fees, able to be used as an investment or day trader type activity
Can buy premium time for drop currency or cash currency
It’s pretty much just EVE business model, but Albion is playable by a layman
I’ve been playing Albion as my main MMO since 2017, and I ascended to full F2P playing a couple years ago. I have grown beyond the need for anything premium there gives. It is very nice. Once you play like 15k hours, you don’t need to pay them or sink your gold/silver on sub time anymore. I also never wear anything but my founders pack mogs so, take that for changing battleaxe from a targeted E to a skillshot E, Robyn
