WOW recommending low settings

So I upgraded my computer.

I now have:
32g ram.
RTX3070 (Laptop but I did my research - it’s a good machine for gaming. Not as good as a 3070 in a desktop but I needed it to be a laptop).
i7 10870.

WOW is recommending setting 2. The same settings it suggested on my last laptop. Which has 16g ram but no dedicated graphics card. I can’t recall the cpu (and too lazy to open it) but it was decent (It was purchased last year for a specific purpose which needs good cpu and it excels at that purpose).

I know wow is cpu heavy but this seems crazy.

I didn’t buy the new set up for wow (thankfully) but are the “recommended settings” just to be ignored? I’m feeling a bit annoyed by all this (and not sure what I expect to get from posting this except hopefully to be told to ignore recommended settings).

It’s never been good at recommending settings. Just test out the settings you want to play at.

I hope you are right. It’s frustrating because now I have more work to do in order to work out what works but I guess it isn’t the end of the world.

First world problems I suppose.

(In good news, I got cyberpunk for $36AUD so happy days there)

It’s totally arbitrary and has no basis on anything.

Set it at 10 and DX12 and play, you’ll probably be fine. If not, start lowering things.

Are you sure it’s using your 3070 and not trying to use the cpu video?

Good catch, didn’t even think of that.

ah… yes. It was set to auto for GPU. Once I set it to 3070 that changed everything.

Thanks!

I was going to say I’m on an overclocked 2080 and it always recommends Ultra to me. I didn’t think there was any way that could be right good catch.

Then again what CPU you’re on make some much bigger difference in WoW than it does other games because it is more CPU based.

Make sure you also go into your nvidia-settings in the Nvidia control panel and change the physicsx from Auto Select to your GPU also

So, your laptop was by-passing your 3070 gpu in favor of the integrated graphics? which resulted in WOW recommending no more than level 2 of a possible level 10 in graphics quality? Your frustration must have been enormous. It would have worked for me.
Great trouble-shooting.

Given I just spent $3500 AUD (Laptop and new screen) yeah… I was a little frustrated.

Didn’t know that was a thing but also done. It was on auto select but was selecting the 3070 (I can run cyberpunk in full glory - pity it’s boring) but better to be safe.

Thanks everyone! I know enough about computers that I usually know if something is wrong but not enough to know how to fix it.
