When I and my friends first started playing Wow back in the day (Ancient History Now).
Quests were basically: Go to location A, Kill 6 Evil Rabbits, Loot 8 carrots. B, Return to quest giver for reward.
Usually Quest Givers were all clustered in one location for the area. So you would have, lets say 4 Quest Givers in a town square. All the requisite mobs and loot pickups were in the same general location.
So questing for the most part was straight forward. And intuitive. Of course taking into consideration that there were occasional exceptions.
Over the last several years / Expansions I have noticed a definite trend by Blizzard to create extremely long, complicated, convoluted and tedium inducing quests. That encompass not only the general local area but send you trudging all over the map because of the numerous Quest chains you need to do in order to succeed in attaining completion and reward.
Last weekend me and my friends were arguing over this quest-elongation occurring in Wow these days. I and a few friends thought that Blizzard was going to far with it, A few other friends thought it was ok.
So I would like your opinion regarding whether you would like Wow to continue to make long Quest-chains. Or whether you would like Wow to go back to making simpler shorter non-quest-chained quests. Like in the old days.
You remember the old days, we use to go to school riding our mules, and we use to buy rock candy at the general store. Oh, those were the days my friend.
Wat? Click accept. Follow arrow. Kill, Collect, or click on to whatever you find. Return. Collect approx 20 gold and an insignificant amount of renown.
But you’re getting experience every step of the way, right? That’s the goal of the quest creators: to get you moving to other portions of the map where more quests await.
You quested when you first began playing? I just ran around shooting at random things for like, a week, before I realised quests were a thing you could do.
Because quest givers in zones were not all huddled together and gave you quests for that zone. You had at most one or two questlines in a zone and any other quests in that zone were found in other zones some of them on a different continent.
You can literally go play Classic WoW right now and see. Sure there are a few questlines that stay in one zone and only that zone which are few in number, hell even early on the Alliance defias questline takes you all over the place. But just about every single zone had you bouncing all over the world.
i loved them like that back then and would love it again and yes i play classic as well as i know many will say go play classic, at the moment i prefer the new stuff on retail
More realistic:
Loot 8 carrots.
OK. Kill Rabbit. Got… fur.
Kill rabbit… got… eyeball.
Kill rabbit. No loot.
Kill rabbit. … a rusty knife? How is that even inside a ra… look, never mind.
Kill rabbit. A copper coin.
Kill rabbit. ANOTHER knife? Are they eating knives? Wheres the carrots?
26 kills later. One partially eaten carrot. Does not count for the quest.
