WoW on gaming laptop

I played many games on my laptop only when i play wow my cpu gets really hot? why??

If you’re running Intel, you should check out Intel XTU. It allows you to undervolt, drop clocks, and tinker with your cpu. Your laptop should also have some sort of fan control, whether it’s easily accessible like a button on high end msi laptops or software like other vendors.

You can also give msi after burner a try to play around with your gpu settings.

Laptops have terrible thermal solutions. Actually, I take that back. Laptops have good thermal solutions given the circumstances, it’s just you’re asking too much and beyond what they’re really designed for.

Most of them will teeter on the edge of throttling from any real workload, or from gaming.

You could do two or three things to improve CPU temperatures on your laptop.

  1. Throttlestop and undervolting. Youtube how to do this.

  2. Liquid metal replacement for thermal paste. Youtube how and IF you should consider this.

  3. Practical, less invasive measure: lower CPU-intensive settings, enable frame rate caps, make sure vents are cleared and not blocked, clean them, don’t play with it directly on your lap as to allow the vents to work.

I recommend against this because laptop cpu’s have no IHS, it’s much easier for liquid metal to cause shortages. If you go down this route you’d have to insulate the area around the die with something like nail polish.

If you’re running an Intel laptop, you can disable boost clocks and under volt a bit with Intel xtu. You’ll lose a bit of performance, but you’ll get better temps and uninterrupted gaming sessions due to better thermals.

Yea i want amd now cause intel 4 core i5 and the i7 6 core suck compare to amd 8 core?

Intel is actually pretty competitive in laptops still. The i7 10750h isn’t bad at all. Granted the new Ryzen 4000 series laptops are really good at multi core workloads. Thing is though, when it comes to laptops there is more to consider than just performance. All the well designed laptops are still intel.

Take for example the Asus Tuf a15, it runs a faster processor than the msi gf65. Yet the display is noticeably worse and so is the cooling solution. For that reason alone, i’d have to recommend the msi laptop over asus’s better performing laptop at a similar price point.

Can’t comment on specific implementations of Intel vs AMD in laptops, but 100% agree that build quality, design, and other factors are more important in a laptop than a spec sheet.

It’s like only buying a powerful engine, but not caring about how good the transmission is or the tires.
