Wow offline mode?

Random thought. Am I crazy, or with the new delves and NPC dungeons, would an offline mode of the game be a possibility?

Unlikely and extremely difficult. Not a lot is saved locally for a very good reason.

Seems like most good single player games require a connection now, been that way for a while.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: in the event that it ever did happen, bringing a character to offline mode would be a permanent choice, with no option to ever bring it (or anything earned on it) to online mode.

Being online is the only defense against cheats on top of it, so as caps said there wouldn’t be cross overs between offline and online

Anything is possible. You would just have to keep offline and online characters completely separate. Will they do it? I don’t see why they would.

That’s too much of a risk for exploits.

The client would have to save a lot more locally than it actually does, potentially giving the player access to data that would otherwise be sequestered to Blizzard’s databases. Which could potentially be modified.

Imagine if I bring my character off line, then find that I can open the save file and increase my character’s damage, then go back online and start one shotting people in BGs.

Could Blizzard program safeguards to prevent this? Probably. Is it worth doing? Probably not.

The way you’d do that is just give your character a full set of conquest gear.

I was thinking of people bringing their 65 characters offline, giving them selves gold cap on each character, then going back online with an extra half a billion gold.

Would those safeguards get reverse engineered? also probably.

Yep, not possible. You would need a local server. Everything in WOW is processed on the server end to prevent cheating.

If you do want to play a Warcraft RTS, Warcraft I, II, and III are available.

Its possible because all the game files are in your PC , but why do you want it ??

Internet too expensive in your area or something ??

Not all the game files are on your PC. Only a small portion.

You mean a large portion.
The server-side of any game is MUCH smaller than the client-side.

Edit: Except for the databases that stores all character data. That must be huge.

would be neat, but I don’t see it happening

No, it would allow for character modding and cheating via local files.

Blizz will never do an offline mode of wow because if they did you would run into a situation like in diablo 3 where people found a way to mod gear that’s why they wont do an offline mode in diablo 4

The sad part is they could actually do offline mode in Diablo if they just kept the characters separate, so your offline character could never go online. You could cheat on it, but it’d never affect anybody but yourself so it wouldn’t matter.

but no, they did offline mode in the dumbest possible way in Diablo 3 on console and that scared people off Diablo ever having offline play again.

WoW being fully offline isn’t WoW.

Too bad they couldn’t have made Remix it’s own entity in Battle.net & once the “season” is over your toons get merged into WoW.

I find other things to do during long MX days, but for those that’d like to stay in the WoW universe. it’d allow them to continue towards their goals.
