WoW needs to be an easy game - Not a hard one

World of Warcraft (reddit.com)

Why is everyone playing Ret pala and BM?

Because they are easy. Back in Legion and BFA almost every spec was easy. There were a few that required the mastery most DPS specs require today in Warthin.

Now the roles are reversed. Its easier to mention the noob specs BM and RET, than to mention the complicated ones. Even a noob spec like Frost mage was destroyed.

PPl want the game to be easy. usually the WoW reddit is full of LARPers who pretend like they want a challenge. Here we have a thread with a 1000 upvotes talking about how they just wanna pew pew do damage and get loot. It says a lot about how absurd class design has come that the WoW playerbase is willing to admit this. Even Classic WoW players are in denial about how they just want to play a game for 80 year olds.

Its getting so absurd that the WoWhead articles on rotations often have mistakes in them or are basically written by AI which calculates what actions should be taken and is then copy and pasted in. The hero talents havnt helped, I know what u gonna say ´´buT mAnY dOnT eVen haVe ACTIVES´´. No, but that isnt the only metric of increased complexity. Something like frost mage literally requires a WA robot to predict when something is likely to proc.

Blizzard, just prune the game. Lets all be real, If we werent terrible at gaming we would be playing MOBAs or Counter Strike. Not a 20 year old lobby game masquerading as an MMORPG. We play WoW (WoW pros included), because we arent great at video games. And thats okay.

Its time for the great Prune to come back

I personally prefer all the extra abilities, the extra combos all of what I feel may be counted as bloat/complication in need of pruning.

I’d also enjoy if there is a good balance where you can do most things with a novice level of skill even on a complicated spec, while having these extra things allows people who wish to take the time to get better at their character and figuring out what works for them.

Basically I like the extra stuff because it gives me room to grow more than if things got pruned down.

WoW needs to be whatever you want it to be. I prefer a challenge, but don’t want to devote my life to progression in M+. It’s a big game and there’s enough content for everyone to play it their way.

original response used to be easy to play hard to master… now its just ez… hell the most difficult class is still ez…

Meh. I like rotations with medium complexities. BM is too boring. Paladin is alright…and rogue (all of them)/feral are way to hard. Somewhere between those extremes. And I think most classes fit in there

WoW needs a challenge. Super easy classes and specs feel rewarding for the first 5 minutes you play them, after that, you feel you’ve reached your roof and it gets super boring, repetitive and dull.

If you don’t want to embrace the learning curve into a real gamer, just don’t and stick to the easy specs. Some of us really like challenge.

TWW is hard so far?

I swapped to Survival because I was annoyed with how many BM I was seeing.

I’ll likely shelf my Hunter at 80 and swap to tank/healer just to actually see the content lol.

Because yeah, there’s more Hunters than blades of grass right now.

if you have been playing since wrath or earlier, you have thousands of hours of gametime, maybe even thousands of days at this point. players like that need a challenge.

There are plenty of mmo’s that offer little to no challenge. Having one mmo that has group content that is both challenging and rewarding is why we’re here.

People just don’t know what they want.

I have an idiot friend who told me he was still gearing up at the end of DF with high M+ gear because he wanted to feel overpowered. Then TWW comes out and he and his wife are literally whining that they are too powerful while leveling. Complaining they can’t get a “rotation” on trash mobs. Meanwhile I run out and Thunderclap 10 things that die quickly so I can move onto the next stuff.

EVERY expansion is like this! You overgear yourself from the previous expansion, and then you are gods coming into the new one until you get to the end levels and have to start over again.

I don’t think WoW needs to be easy, but what’s hard about WoW shouldn’t be all the GD systems.

Upgrade this with that currency but get that currency by unlocking this content but to unlock that content you need this item and to get that item you need this renown but to get that renown you need to… Swear to god, this game is more like World of Spreadsheets anymore. The amount of hoops to jump though and bloated busywork in all aspects of the game is just out of control.

I look at ‘What to do at TWW level 80’ type videos on YouTube and my eyes just glaze over half way though. Why can’t ANYTHING in the game just be clear and simple anymore?

I leveled a bunch of my alts during the pre-patch event and Hunter was, by far, the most bored I was out of all nine classes that Pandaren can be.

I’m not sure if swapping to MM or Survival will make me enjoy the class more.

I only came here to say the following:

  • Easy and Hard are relative only to the person playing.
  • WoW has become a jack of all trades yet master of none.

Everyone plays differently, and has differing states of mental and physical health. What one finds hard, another may find easy. And by attempting to cater to all denominators, Blizzard’s focus has become divided, and on some occasions, contradictory. There’s an old saying, “you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.” What we have before us is the result.

Now, back to your day.

I like having a challenge in the proper context. I don’t want to struggle when I level, save that for endgame where you can make the game as hard as you want with Delves, Dungeons and raids

Hell you can even take it easy in pvp if you chill on random BGs

I vibe with this quote the most, I think it describes my issues with WoW to a T.

I would rather have a full action bar and have to think about where to use an ability and when vs just because it lights up. Having every class be brain dead like bm or ret nah pass

Say no more lmao.

Accurate and part of the fun for me imo.

“Easy.” I have a friend who mastered Ret Pally and would still out perform the average ret pally in high keys by hundreds of thousands of dps. Why? Because he understand the class and spec.

If you want flavor of the month, that is fine, but what people perceive as “easy” is often misunderstood because of its damage profile.

BM hunter is “easy.” But how many of those players are competitive and use all their utility?

I don’t see them as “noob specs.” A class and a specialization isn’t “noob.” Players however can be “noobs.” There is nothing wrong with being a new player.

The path of least resistance doesn’t necessarily imply they are good players, or that that is somehow the “Golden Egg” from a goose. People are inclined towards the path of least resistance because we as a species enjoy complacency. If people enjoyed challenging themselves they would be more successful in their daily lives.

Class design is based on promoting an enjoyable game for profit. Because what you find enjoyable does not align with others, does not mean that their enjoyment is invalid.

Classic WoW was modeled on a reward system, not on a fun, flashy, graphic playstyle that is based in rotations and focus to detail. Comparing classic to modern WoW is to compare apples to oranges. They have different purpose and design philosophies that are anti-thetical to each other, and this design philosophy changed because of how grindy prior iterations/early iterations of the game was.

Frost mage is an RNG generator for crit fishing, or at least was in the past, stacking debuffs to increase the damage output and give guarantees in some cases. It isn’t necessary to have Weak Auras or an AI to play the class. This is so grossly exaggerated.

That is why Classic exists for those who wish to spend hours waiting to find someone to join their group and run to a dungeon.

For those who have families, social lives, those who are terrible at socializing, or otherwise, LFG and the “lobby” system exists to save valuable time. Because some people who earn money realize that an hour of their time might cost them $50 RL, if not more, or less. IF its a fast food or blue collar job, maybe they don’t want to waste their precious time off trying to find someone. That said, the choice exists and it is fine currently.

If you’re finding most specs difficult, I can’t really commiserate on that front.
Sounds like a personal issue for you. We don’t need a grand prune, and we really don’t need to game to be dumbed down when most, if not all specs, are all in the same ballpark of difficulty to play with a few exceptions.
