I always assumed that Night Elf and Tauren that fight back to back in Cataclysm’s Hyjal questline were lovers.
They have no problem with lesbians, bi, trans, even bears. But twinks disgust blizzard and they have hotfixed countermeasures against them 6 times.
I still fail to see the connection between gay and queer people wanting acceptance and what you are talking about sorry
And with what topics we’ve had, I’m still amazed it’s open.
Obviously Blizzard is Uncommitted to dealing with this topic
It’s my job to be Uncommitted.
they were attempting a play on words with the term “twink”.
it fell flat, because the pun was awful.
So we need characters that identify primarily via their sexuality? Sounds really shallow.
Me reading this thread:
Who cares. It’s just a GAME. I don’t think anyone should be pushing their “agenda” on any game really.
And before someone calls me a homophobe. I’m not. My uncle has been with his BF for nearly 20 years and majority of my friends are also part of that community. And I’m extremely close to those people and fully support them.
Almost feels no point offering my two cents in this thread it will get shut down for another 24 hours anyway
Statistically speaking that group actually makes up less than 1% of the world’s population.
Ian McKellen (Gandalf,Magneto is gay and is my favourite actor.
But the community is already being repenetrated way more then there actually are. There are many groups that get way less representation than them so… not a game for religion, politics and sexual orientations.
I made my hunter to be gay but your delightful group of unaccepting players reported my name and also I got complaints about how I dressed my male blood elf. Yes a GM of my old guild and some of the members complained about me for being a little too gay I guess. So.
I would not call WoW the most accepting group. I like to roleplay with my toons. I am straight irl but my hunter is not. And my warrior turned into my death knight (as I rolepay it) My pally has almost always been a female Blood Elf. My warrior is probably even a female right now but I dont know becuase I have not logged into WoW for over a month now. except to check one of my toons.
So its like…the vast majority of people are not that way.
Dont have to force your views on others. And this is a very risky thing for them to do if they did do it.
YOU OP, you can rest assured that statistically speaking there is at least one character who already exists in game who is infact the very way that you imagine.
So… just use your imagination and role play it I guess. Blizzard has never once made a statement saying that every character is straight. So that therefore means that there already could be one already that you do not know about.
Many religions do not allow that at all. China does not allow that. Russia also frowns upon that greatly.
There are religious groups that would condemn the entire company if Blizzard decided to do that. So… better not risk it.
how about we make the game fun first then we can worry about the small things like who is lgbt.
What a ridiculous reply.
First of I don’t care what others consider me to be.
Second I disapprove of many things in life but that doesn’t mean I sit around thinking about them.
The point was that I don’t have to accept what people do in bad to be considered a good person.
WoW forums goers are not a great group. I recognize the importantance that being included has to you and I wish you the best! I’m sorry that this issue has to be made political because some people force their religion and insecurities on other people.
This tired old troll flamebait is still going around?
If you’re playing wow for the romance you are doing it wrong
Folks aren’t (usually) playing it for the romance. But the romance exists in-game. In droves. World of Warcraft is surely about war but it’s also a world; I just hope that, if they do introduce something more “diverse”, it’s tasteful and not just another shallow, transparent example. Good representation isn’t in portraying a good LGBT+ character, it’s in portraying a good character that just so happens to be LGBT+. If that makes sense.
That’s a valid point, almost 100 years ago in Disney animation much of what was meant to be portrayed as tolerance now in the modern era, we can look back on it and see hang on a minute, that was actually some pretty racist stuff.
I personally just feel a lot of the arguments against fall flat, either because they’re veiled queerphobia and/or nonsensical (can’t have queer people because there’s only 1%, but there’s 0% real life orcs) or because the people who genuinely mean well have been unknowingly taught to expect a higher standard to queer characters and stories (not to say accept garbage uncritically, but sometimes we end up criticizing things we’d let straights get away with) and regardless its strange to have no main characters in a game this big be some kinda queer in “current year”

or because the people who genuinely mean well have been unknowingly taught to expect a higher standard to queer characters and stories
Fair enough. Some representation – awful or great – is better than nothing.
