WoW needs FFXIV crafting

Because making crafting tedious as all living heck will totally make more players log in. /s

This! Crafting gear is only useful at the very start of an expac. But as soon as catchup mechanics come out…and now they come out really fast…it no longer holds any value.

I can’t agree with this.

FFXIV crafting works for that game because they treat every profession like a job, with abilities you have to use to craft your stuff, on top of having all these materials for each craft. No profession can be levelled without needing large amounts of materials provided by the others either, meaning that if you want to be self reliant, you need to level every profession.

And that’s something that works in FFXIV because you can have a single character pick up every job in the game, with the only thing preventing you from levelling every single one of them to max level being time. Where as in WoW the maximum amount of primary professions you can have is 2, which means if you want to be entirely self-reliant, FFXIV style, you’ll need 6 characters at a minimum.

To each their own, but the gathering and crafting gear helps you do it a lot better, and find way more. It really depends on your drive to create.

It was strange for me for a short while, mostly because I was stuck in my WoW lazy mindset. I was too used to the grab and go method Blizzard has put us in. Once I learned how deep the crafting and gathering WAS, and how FF teaches you to craft truly awesome gear, there was no going back.

Ironically, FFXIV crafting reminds me of what I missed about WoW’s crafting in Vanilla and BC. Also ironically, FF actually went deeper into crafting and control than WoW ever has. When I make a sword in that game, my technique in blacksmithing and my gathering skills take actual skill. Sure, I can make any old hunk of metal that does decent damage for a day, or I can craft an actual epic blade that stays relevant for a character for extreme lengths of time.

Everyone arguing over two crappy crafting systems.

Should rather be looking into SWG or (from what I hear) EVE.

It’s almost like that’s end game for a lot of people and they actually enjoy it?
EvE online exists.

Granted, I’ve been sitting here doing WoTLK crafting all week and it’s more engaging than anything they’ve had in BFA and SL. At least Legion was okay.

As I stated, I enjoy the depth to crafting in FF - just not the dress-up aspect. As for WoW crafting being “lazy” (w/e that is in a leisure time activity), I think I’m one of the weird few that continue to level up my chosen and default professions as I level my characters. To me, “grab and go” describes those that max level their character, then power level their professions of choice. If you do that, then I can see that WoW professions would feel even more shallow than they already are.

I’m not changing clothes and spec to grind recipes while in queue for something I need my main spec and gear for

Turned me of ff14 crafting entirely

It really sucks that they spend zero time in development on the possibilities of crafting.

For example, new glyphs would be fun. How about some Kyrian style angel wings for Demon Hunters? Scary Necrolord bone totems for shaman? Druid forms for each covenant?

And really anything outside Alchemy/Engineering could be improved by leaps and bounds.

Different strokes for different folks. I love having a set of crafting gear as well as crafting rotations in FFXIV. I like that if I rub a couple of brain cells together I can maximize my chances of boosting the high quality percentage rate to 100. I like that when I get my crafting level high enough I can craft lower level items at high quality 100% of the time. I like that taking the time to run a proper rotation on current level items not only boosts their chances of being high quality, but also provides a drastic XP increase to my crafting.

Contrast that with WoW’s system in Shadowlands. You gather or buy a ton of mats, press a “craft all” button, and AFK for a few minutes while your mats are converted into vendor trash. After doing this hundreds of times, you finally get the ability to craft rank 4 items, but it’s still a hollow feeling because you know that next patch, those “high ranking” items are going to be vendor trash, too, and there’s no way you’re ever going to be able to sell enough items to recoup all the time and/or money that you put into leveling your crafting. On top of that, the time and effort you put into maxing your skill is completely rendered obsolete on the next expansion because they’re going to start you back at 1 again. FFXIV also makes the leveling process more bearable through crafting levequests. WoW used to kind of do this with cooking dailies, but FFXIV takes it to the next level by providing crafting levequests for all professions at all levels.

The FFXIV system is superior because it’s cumulative. Your efforts aren’t wasted. The professions even feed into each other. Is your crafting chest piece inferior? Use your Weaving skill to make a nice crafting apron! Is your needle inferior? Create a good one with your Goldsmithing! Need good crafting boots? Switch into Leatherworking mode and bust some out! Don’t have the mats? Throw on your gathering gear and get to farming! Your time and effort in that game feels worthwhile. The more we compare FFXIV to WoW, the more I’m convinced that I’m never resubbing to WoW again.

Or you could buy them off the market board. No one’s forcing you to manually grind the mats, but to be honest, grinding out the mats from old expansions takes seconds to minutes, not hours to days.

Once you get into it you will learn to love it. its very involved with each other profession making it a beautiful creation.

No wonder it keeps sucking so bad every expansion…they must have fired the original crafting-dev team for randoms who they could pay less. No way you can go from mounts/pets/decent looking gear to…what we have today.

It’s not entirely about time invested.

wow doesn’t have ff’s easy teleportation, it would be much more annoying in wow.

yeah it’s such a hardship to click a button to change back when your queue pops

I can only surmise that they are not yet acquainted with FFXIV’s gear set system.

seems like most of the criticisms of that game come from people who don’t have the knowledge to make said claims (because they’ve never tried it or stopped at level 10)

It’s not really dress up. Like was pointed out, gathering in FFXIV isn’t like in wow. You don’t just come across random herbs or ore. You have to specifically be going out to gather specific materials, those you’re putting on the right clothes for the job. It’s like having a pvp set and a pve set. You were what is best for the specific task you are performing.

You know, changing gear sets is super easy right?

You just equip your gathering/crafting set and then open your gear set list and create a gear set for it

You can do it for literally every class in the game and by putting each gearset on a hot bar, you can change instantly at the press of a button.

That is a fair point. Unless you’re a mage.

And FFXIV needs A LOT that WoW does/has that they don’t.

Oh boy, add more steps to making an item, that’s not obnoxious at all!

It’s really not.
