They need to do a thing like FFXIV does with the Trust system where you can do dungeons with a party of NPC’s.
I know when I go back to play FFXIV after not playing for a bit I use that system to get my bearings and get used to any changes and then I’ll have the confidence to queue up with real people and I know some people who use it for everything.
If they really want to give solo players some content that’d be a great way to go about it.
People who’d choose to use it exclusively were probably doing minimal dungeons anyways so I don’t see it hurting much in the way of having a community or interactions etc.
Trusts were a great way to learn mechanics and a fun way to experience how the characters interact.
I don’t think it would detract from anyone’s play experience if socially anxious people ran their Halls of Infusion dungeon with NPCs instead of 4 randoms who won’t answer you when you say “hey, how’s it going this afternoon?”
The trusts in FFXIV are cool, but were mainly implemented as a way to better tie FFXIV’s characters and story to the dungeon. It makes more sense to do, say, the Tower of Babil with Y’shtola and Urianger, people who have been established to be on a similar power level as you and who have been experiencing the events of the world with you up to that point, than with random other WoLs who shouldn’t actually exist in the narrative. The ability to run earlier dungeons with random NPCs came after, likely as a way to make FFXIV’s absolutely horrendous alt grind more bearable.
It wouldn’t really make sense in WoW narratively since you are the champion or whatever, and every other NPC is several orders of magnitude above or below you in power, several steps disconnected from your personal narrative. Other adventurers are also canon to exist alongside you, and WoW alt levelling is the best it has been since release, so we don’t really need another bandage on top of that.
That’s without the issues that may arise when you consider you’re trying to make WoW more antisocial. Not the biggest fan of the idea.
You know it’s okay to like more than one game? Also I prefer WoW but FFXIV does do some things better. Blizzard is great at taking an idea and making it better so why not take this and have them put their spin on it.
That’s fair, the entire idea of using Trusts is to familiarize yourself with the dungeon and it’s mechanics without being an impediment to other players.
Here is a compromise,a revamped version of the proving grounds, that takes you through several rounds of combat as your chosen role.
Right now if you want to learn how do play a new role, roll a new character and start in that role and level through dungeons or pvp,or group up with friends/guildies and learn as you go.
That could be a way to improve on it as far as I know when I last played FFXIV you could only do it with you and the NPCS not you and a friend(s) and NPC’s
Consider for a moment:
What if we had noteworthy WoW NPCs to run dungeons with on the regular?
Could be something worth considering even for it’s own mode.
Trust Dungeons had half the loot of regular ones so the WoW Equivalent would probably be like only the last boss gives loot of the appropriate difficulty
