Multiboxing is a term that describes a player who does the following:
Pays for 2 or more Wow accounts.
Creates a character on each account which they then run on either:
One PC by running two or more Wow instances for each of their characters.
Or running two or more PCs for each character.
They may use Clone-key addon to control the characters or they may do it the hard way
which is to have one character as main leader and the other character on follow.
All of their characters have to be close to each others levels for it to be effective for exp gain.
To be honest this seems to me to be a lot of very hard work and expensive.
Before people start yelling about Wow Rules. This Multiboxing is not against the Wow rules.
Wow allows it. What Wow does not allow is botting which is automating a character.
Multiboxing is not botting since the player must control all the characters in real time.
So having said all that. I would like to hear from Multiboxers as to why they do it. What do they get out of it? Like I mentioned to me it looks like a lot of work and expense.
Do they do it as a hobby? Is there something they gain from it? Any benefits to it? Or do they do it for the chalange? Or the plain and simple fun it?
To those of you who don’t multibox, What reaction do you have when you see a group of characters running around in a very noticeable weird manner?
Do you even know multiboxing exists? Do you think that you are seeing bots instead?
There’s no real harm to the general game-play. Or do you think there is?
I’m asking because I have never done multiboxing and was curious as to peoples reactions to it. Are there certain self imposed rules that as a multiboxer you know would be problimatic? Like maybe not joining a dungeon group or guild group?
Are there do’s and don’ts to multiboxing? Do you Mulitibox to primarily solo content?
I did it because I used to do it in other games that required a group to level - was next to impossible to level solo.
All my MB was solo. I don’t PvP. I don’t use it to farm. I used to MB to solo dungeons. If WoW had a trust system like FFXIV, there would have never been a reason to MB
But you are correct, it’s a pain and a lot more hassle than it’s worth in WoW. Some like to push their abilities on a single character. Tryin got wrangle 5 at the same time and have it all work out was fun. MB’ing is more like an old school MMORPG, where planning was more important than twitch reflexes. Figuring out how to make it all work was an interesting exercise.
I tried multi-boxing 5 characters. At first it was a interesting challenge. When i finally got all my 5 characters functioning I was thrilled. This was for soloing. I quickly realized that it was a pain to control all 5 at once which was switching windows constantly. I did not have any apps to help the process because even then I realized that each character had to be controlled individually most of the time.
During that month of testing multi-boxing I learned that it was stressing me out. To make things worse I also realized that I could not maintain $75.00 a month to do it. It really became not worth it.
Then I also realized that there was an option in WoW for people like me that wanted to solo content but wanted companion helpers. I made my first Hunter. At level 15 I got two raptor pets to run around with. These two pets could tank and dps. As a Hunter I also got fain death, for those times that things got out of hand and a free heal.
Playing WoW became good again and a lot more fun. I had two companions that were controlled by the game’s AI. All I had to do was shoot at a mob and the two raptor pets ran to tear it apart. Icing on the cake was now with only one account active I only had to pay
$15.00 a month instead of $75.00. I am very happy with that.
My advice to anyone who wants companion/helpers to play WoW. Don’t bother with multi-boxing.
Just make a Hunter or a Warlock. Both have great multiple pets. Mages and shaman also get pets. So you have plenty of options here.
