WoW MoP Remix? Sure. Can we remix Monks?

I would post this on the Monk forums but honestly it’s pointless because those forums are pretty much dead and also there is seemingly no Monk class dev.

That being said, long story short as we all know we are going to be playing essentially a MoP season. Lots of highlights on the Cloak of Infinite Potential, Bronze currency, the mounts and gear… but nothing at all about monks.

I understand that this event is to satiate the Retail playerbase until TWW comes out and just because its a MoP season doesn’t necessarily entail that Monks need to be looked at, but right now, Monk is in the worst state it has ever been in. It’s been like this for awhile now, honestly.

WW is a parody of Enhancement Shaman. It’s essentially a pet summoning spec. Mind you, WW is supposed to be the most martial art-y of the specs, yet, both Brewmaster and Mistweavers embody that better somehow. The majority of WW players do not like this atrocious playstyle.

Brewmasters are known for being the hardest tanks to play yet their performance isn’t even on par with VDH, Prot paladins… and don’t bother playing Brewmaster in PvP. Perhaps its more indicative of how bad PvP is and how bad tanks are (except for bear druids) are in PvP but regardless, it’s not good.

It seems that Mistweavers are typically the most content of the specs, Mistweavers seem to really love their playstyle. “Fistweaving” is a unique playstyle and Blizzard is really wishy-washy with encouraging it or nerfing it. Nonetheless Mistweavers, compared to the other specs, are paid the most attention, but that isn’t saying much.

Lastly, Monk visuals are still the worst in the entire game.

It would be amazing that some of the attention towards this MoP remix could be directed at Monks since Monks are arguably the 2nd biggest part of MoP however it really seems like Blizzard hopes that Monk players will remain content with the pack of gum and toothpicks they have to play with while they consult a magic 8 ball in regards to class development and direction.

They don’t? That would surprise me. I’ve never played my monk full tume, but whenever I do play him I have a great time. Especially this season. Blackout kicking groups of mobs, everything cooling down super fast. It’s awesome.

I do think they need some new animations though. I hate fists of fury. It just looks silly. I think it should be something similar to the diablo 3 monk’s seven sided strike. Where the monk kind of teleports in and hits from different angles. It’s basically what demon hunters do with blade dance (i think that’s what it’s called).

I also wouldn’t mind seeing fist weaving split off into its own spec. Make it all about Chi-ji. The other three Celestials are all covered by the other trees, but the bird just feels secondary.

Oh, I would also love to see the class tree get some better capstone talents. Considering the class is supposed to be a martial artist, with fast and dynamic playstyle, having those top class talents be static totems is incredibly lazy.

I’ve done most of my seasonal achievements as Monk before rerolling to DK. It is far from being ‘the worst state it’s ever been in’

Here are my thoughts:

WW while it needs to have its stat priority fixed has a a number of fun playstyles which work in either AoE or ST. Brew = AoE, Kitty Summoning = AoE/cleave, Jadefire = ST/AoE. We have something for every affix and bring a ton of utility. Even before the buff we got late December I didn’t run into any issues ‘pumping’ as a WW.

Brewmaster = High damage and utility. But this is where I’d definitely say there needs to be rework. I have better control and sustain as a Blood DK and with the Axe better damage too. Also how does this spec still have more buttons even after using defensive passives. Overall I’d still say the class ‘works’ for what it’s trying to accomplish but feels like you’re working 1.5/2x as hard to accomplish the same result. Same stat prio issues as WW. Crit+ vers > Mastery >>> Haste.

Mistweaver = We were ultra-buffed at the start of season and minorly nerfed twice since. Fistweaving remains one of the most enjoyable playstyles to date with the ability to heal well on the move and basically have no mana issues. I don’t see this getting worse.

So my TL:DR Fix stat priority issues for WW/BrM, bloat issues for BrM. All that needs to happen.

Is that true? I have quite a bit of fun playing ww monk, but enh shaman doesn’t feel very good to me, so I don’t see how it’s a pale imitation or whatever.

I raided as enh shaman in cata and that was a blast. It’s gone way downhill since then and could use the rework long before monk, but that’s just me.

It’s not. The WW and Enh playstyles are not remotely similair.

On the other hand, WW and Ret are almost identical. Blizz should definitely look at what made the Ret rework so successful and do something similar with Monk.

I apologize for not specifying better, I was typing this up just before my day finished at work.

I will flesh that part out better;

I feel as if WW is a “parody” of Enh Shaman in thematics.

WW is a statue summoner these days. Shamans summon totems. WW is supposed to be the most martial art-y of the specs, utilizing their fists and kicks better than the other specs. WW augment their strikes with Chi / nature damage.

Enh shamans… are the most martial of the shamans. They augment their strikes with the elements.

These seem skin deep but overall, when I say WW is a parody of Enh Shaman thematically, what I mean is we are essentially just eastern themed Enh Shamans. That doesn’t necessarily sound horrible, but, I believe as the most martial arts focused spec, we should focus more on that than constantly summoning statues and pets.

I was fine with the opinion up to here. I can see why some don’t like WW, don’t understand how it’s the same as enhance. But this comment, it’s wrong. >:(

I love doing shoryukens, running around and doing SCK, FSK. Could they look better, yeah the spells are getting old, but they look amazing still.

WW monks are awesome now. My favorite class/spec.

The only thing I hear Monks complain about is Faeline Stomp. It makes no sense to make a hypermobile melee dps stand in a specific area to dps.

But yeah, the animations need work. D3 Monk was a glorious sight.

Based on what limited reading I’ve done regarding Monk, I’ve come to think that the actual problem for anyone who tries to say that the class or an individual spec sucks is unironically ‘skill issue’. Possibly more than for any other class.

Anecdotally, I have a friend who mains a monk and actively plays all 3 specs and they’re always cleaning up in whatever spec they’re playing.

They buffed the ability awhile ago that you don’t need to stay in it. Just activating it or stepping inside gives a 10sec buff.

Edit: Also it’s Jadefire Stomp now

Personally, I think the WW monk playstyle is one of the best currently in the game. There are A LOT of terrible rotations right now. I would put WW up there with ret pally with ease of play and enjoyability.
