WoW Models

Do you think the 2014 WoD models need an update?

Could live without brand new models - but there needs to be a refresh. Some complaints from WoD are still relevant today. For example: elf bug eyes

Sure, why not?

I hope not. The direction of the remakes would likely fall inline with the kid friendly vibe that the game has been leaning towards. The wod model remakes butchered the only cool looking male Tauren face and ruined the best male goblin face.

Us pandas haven’t been touched for over a decade. Mayhap we get reworked first?

edit: Ok, we did get some customization options in Shadowlands. But no hard changes to the models including outstanding issues like the female neckline, the weighting on my beloved face 13, and of course no tail option for male red pandas.

If so, then yes.

Probably not. As this is unlikely to be a unanimous request from the audience, it’s equally unlikely that there will be enough agreement that the result would solve the rather small problems it is trying to solve.

I don’t think people would like to see WoW suddenly require a non-potato game machine after 20 years of a cartoonish graphics format that is inclusive of hardware that is below cutting edge.

Yes and no.
Yes because it would be nice to update some of the older low poly models.

No because a lot of the updated stuff has been ruined with either being too Disney-like (big eyes, very rounded edges, creepy/scary creatures no longer looking such) or by their textures being reduced to paintbucket fill tool instead of having detail like it used to.
Also a lot of uniquely animated creatures were mashed together with other things, losing their unique animations.

So yes if they can stop being awful.
No if it means an update will make it crap.

Given the community? No.

By which I mean - wow fans (and MMO players in general) seem to be fiercely attached to the history of the game. And violently push back on any changes made to models that ‘ruin’ their mental image of the thing. Witness the cries of anguish when the first model updates occurred. Many people spend hours on the forums nit-picking and declaring that models made in 2004 were infinitely superior to the updated variants.

And Blizzard ended up being ultra-cautious, sticking with the old skeletons for the most part which leads to weird spines on orcs, elves, long BE faces, lack of worgen tails and others.

If they announced they were doing it again? Same thing.

At the moment they’re fairly functional tbh. The main thing I wish they’d update is older gear sets - for example offering modern variants of tier one and two (and paladins everywhere fall to their knees and weep for joy…)

The only thing that feels outdated now are the pre-Shadowlands hairstyles.

An updated Battlegear of Might like Saurfang had would be neat.
